Aegophile USB converter set [sold]
Letting go of my highly modded Aegophile "USB to AES/EBU" converter.
This unit will allow 44.1khz (CD quality) music playback from PC/ laptop to your favourite old skool hi-end DAC which accepts AES/EBU input.
This is a great way to start selling away your CD player/transport and change to PC playback in your hi-end setup.
Modification list and package description :
1) Unit is powered by external 5V power supply regulator by Linear Technology chipset and capacitor by BlackGate 16V 2200uF
2) 12V battery (SLA - sealed lead acid battery) included
3) Battery charger included
4) USB 5V power from PC/laptop is removed from the unit hence no interference from PC's noisy 5V supply
5) Digital output stage AES/EBU is taken direct from the output decoder chipset hence most pure digital waveform and best sound is obtained
6) USB cable included
7) AES/EBU Belden Profibus 110 ohm cable with 12 feet length included - this cable is industrial grade
8') Included is the installation CD
9) Isolation cones for the unit
Here's the pictures for all that's included in this sale.
Front View of the unit - see the AES/EBU output connector and toslink
Under side view - 3 isolation cones are crucial to isolate away unwanted sonic degrading micro vibrations
Rear view of the unit - see the usb input on the left, and dedicated 5V cable on the right; the 5V is regulated from the 12V battery. See the purple cable, that's the 12feet AES/EBU cable. You place this unit close to your PC/laptop using short USB cable, then connect the long AES/EBU cable to your DAC which is situated nearer to your preamp and amplifier at the front of the room.
Closeup view of the regulator - LT1085CT-5 chip (this is good stuffs) and the black capacitor is a BlackGate 16V 2200uF standard grade (even most hi-end CD transports don't use this cap cos' it's too expensive)
Top view of the overall setup. The green cable connects the positive 12V to the voltage regulator.
Battery charger is manually clipped onto the battery and charged for several hrs is sufficient. No it won't explode as I've charged for few days without problems. This is a slow charging hence very safe. But Do not charge while playing if you want absolute best sound.
RM580 only. RM200
