Re: Marantz CD94 CD player fans
The Hifi Choice review of the CD85 wasnt that positive. Looks good though.
Zaks prices have gone crazy over the last 12 months. Bought some items from him and same items now selling 100% more. Looks like he wouldnt accept a lower offer eh!

Its a great player, you can see it off very fast if the buyer think it still worth 1.5k

Oh, yes it's worth the money. It's hard to come by. The 960 is the same of marrantz cd94 mk1 with only 1 dac chip which is 1541a.

Re: Marantz CD94 CD player fans
CD960's sound is similar to the Marantz CD94MKII but less explicit. Also CD94 is better in terms of fluidity, subtlety and resolution
The CD960 is really clear CD94 family, he has the same tonal sound, CD960 is less refined, as manifested by rawness and aggression, and has a more coarse nature in general, moreover sometimes correctly gives more liveliness.
Besides the CD960 lower definition, particularly audible in the midbas, and is considerably less smooth than the CD94. In short, the CD960 is a CD94 with poorer fine tuning.
Compared with the pure tonal CD94M it is tremendous closely related, but slightly slower, slightly less fresh, while less smooth and less detailed and generally less sophisticated.
Hope you can get the picture

Re: Marantz CD94 CD player fans
I have an 15years old player that doesn't read cd when cold start up and keep skipping while player the first few tracks, but it will play ok after I leave it on for a few hours. I suspect it is either capacitors problem or laser pickup is weak. Since it is an old player I didn't bother send for repair but instead is my new project to fix it.
I tried replace all the capacitors around the controller, focus ic and tracking ic. It didn't solve. Finally I try lubricate the cd clamp spin wheel and wa la! It work like a charm again. Maybe you should try it. I read from a few sites, laser pickup can last very long time, chances of it fail is slim. By the way most of the new laser pickup available now is made from china. I will never change my original with these sub standard parts.

Re: Marantz CD94 CD player fans
CD 880 can be a very temperamental especially when it gets old.
So many problem related to tracking issue.
Even after recap also can never solved..i think CD94 is more reliable than CD880.
