Preamp for Rotel Power Amps
hi, trying to gather some infos
what is the best pre to match with rotel pwr amps?
i have two rb970bx (bridged mode)
the pwr amps goin to run with tannoy sixers (dual bass)
have to decide before buying one
i listen mostly to rock songs
so pre without tone control is out of q's
tq in advance

Hi there,
I'm not sure what is the best match for your rotel power, but I do have a Rotel pre-amp (RC-970 BX) for sale which should work fine/compatible with your power amp.

if your rotel power amp has enough gain, better to use passive pre amp

u r definitely rite, the gain is high, sometimes too high
vol level at 3, already my neighbour can hear to what im listening
any idea to lower down the gain? any suggest'n on what passive pre?

passive preamp is preamp which has no gain. no need electricity to operate it
but good passive preamp such as transformers preamp can make your power amp to perform to its optimum without changing its character

I am using a Promitheus TVC (Transformer Volume Control) for my Denon monoblocks. Very nice sounding. For more info go to http://www.promitheusaudio.com/
By the way it is hand crafted in Malaysia and has been highly acclaimed in reviews.

just recently got it, diyed from audionote circuit,
build by a prodigy of aspen amplifiers down in melbourne

No I haven't tried active preamp, whether tube or solid state, but would like to. With the TVC, the principle is impedance matching and minimum electronic interference of signals from the source to the amp. According to the website the standard version is US390 now. Mine has only 2 RCA inputs.
