Yay! Welcome back Mugenfoo!!! Missed you!!!

Hey Azri,

I've got the PurePower 1050i. Good enough to power my Krell Integrated, 2 box CD playback, phono amp and a few others all at the same time. Display show an all time highest load of 20% when rockin hard. No complaints here but plenty of praise from me.

does a mild blinking that occurs on house bulbs, (in my case energy saver bulbs in living room only), indicates unstable power supply? this happens not every night. sometimes during day time, power tripped without any reason. i can see other apartment units were not having any problems. any idea??

can a damaged power filter cause a trip? cheers

Hi Azri, if your bulbs are flickering I would say that is an indication of unstable power supply! You can buy voltage indicators that will quickly tell you if you have a problem or not.

My friend lent me his voltage indicator for a couple of weeks. My house is new, and I am in a low density suburb - but despite this it can vary from 225V all the way up to 250V! If you live in a high density suburb, or if Tenaga wired you up with lousy cable, or if you share the cable with too many other households - you will certainly see power supply fluctuations.

Azri,

Talk to htkaki what happened to his situation. He also had lights that flickers constantly. I had to climb up to check two DB boards before we resolved his problem.

my sony LCD just went to safe mode two days ago. it wont turn on, the red standby light blinks 7 times & according to websites, 7 blinks indicates high voltage incoming (exceeds 33k what does this means?), in result it went to safe mode. i have to consult sony technicans to come & check. plus it is been said to check on power supply regulation & horizontal circuits. this is weird, the tv is only a year old..

Azri, get a voltage meter and monitor ... my place, the range is between 210 and 260. but the lows are at night and for a short while only. However, I used a soundstage voltage regulator from Tong Lee, so TV and rest of AV set up is powered by a range of between 235 and 245v. Happy so far.

Azri, it sounds like your area's 240V mains is full of high voltage spikes. It's a silent killer man. Better get a cure for it dude Idea

cheers.

azri: the soundstage regulator output fluctuates within a narrow range, it's not fixed. i'm sure someone like mugenfoo or knwong can explain the difference.

Azri. it has been serving me very well on both my setups. ( one unit is approx 12 months and the other 8 months ). I too was apprehensive but getting one proved my doubts wrong, after which added another to my Hifi setup linked to my Power filter.

Noticed that my power range is somewhere along 225 to 240 volts and the "AC" drops during the day time to 225v / 230v and at 240v at nite.

My 19 inch TV is re-energized after adding on the regulator.

But thats my choice base on its build quality and price.

cheers Very Happy

When I still had a SONY 29" TV, Sony repair would make house calls for any repair job. That was a number of years ago, but I think it still applies today. Transporting LCD, Plasma, LED type TV can be risky if we don't know how to do it properly. So I suggest you call the authorized service center. At the minimum have THEM do the transporting. Of course only one BIG problem, MONEY. They are likely going to charge a big premium. I remember each repair last time was at least RM150 or more, even for minor problems (like a resistor blew)....

In relation to voltage regulators, someone told me that due to the boost/buck circuit to regulate the voltage this introduces noise or interference to the power, which adversely affects sound quality. Any validity to this?

Yup Sony still does make house calls. Some months back I had an issue with my old 34" CRT. No way I was gonna lug that huge thing to a service center. So I called them and they responded quite promptly. I think the service/transport charge is something like RM50. This is not including any repair, which they will do after they come and diagnose the fault.

It is still a price worth paying for the convenience (and to save you a sore back).

they tend to curtail and choke the power delivery to the audio system, especially power amps.

Aside from AVRs, does the same apply to line conditioners or those isolation transformers? I guess with isolation transformers if you get one with a big enough VA rating then it won't choke the power delivery?
