Upgrade Power Cable From Flat plug
Hi there,
Anyone know where can I get power cable one side is flat plug & the other end with USA plug. I had a Marantz CD94 player with the normal power cable but I'm looking to upgrade it.
Cheers.

Re: Upgrade Power Cable From Flat plug
Hi sflam,
My apology for that. What I mean is the power cord IEC connector (2 small round shape type ) that plug behind CD94 where on the other end with 2 pin plug. Normally if people want to change to US plug, they will cut the hole to replace it. Is there any factory terminate type where at CD94 with 2 small round shape IEC connector & the other end with US plug.

Re: Upgrade Power Cable From Flat plug
You mean the Figure-8 plug like this one? Except that the other end is US plug?

furutech has an audiophile figure of eight connector. buy a us plug and some good cable and you will hv yr audiophile figure of eight power cord.
Re: Upgrade Power Cable From Flat plug
Make sure you mark the cable properly to get the polarity right.

Re: Upgrade Power Cable From Flat plug
Another simpler method is to get a normal US Plug power cable with a normal IEC and get an adaptor like this....
http://www.hifi4sale.net/t21410-clearer-audio-iec-to-figure-8-adaptor-new
The adaptor is cheaper than the Furutech FI-08 but Furutech FI-08 is the way to go if you want the best available. Also no need to mark polarity as can easily distinguish from the IEC head.....

Re: Upgrade Power Cable From Flat plug
Generally it is never safe when u start playing with main current.
The only "benefit" you get from US plug is without the fuse. To be a bit safe, look for the 250v version, which again require a wall socket that can accomodate it.. It is different from the standard US wall socket. Or u can risk it using the 125v version..
Polarity does play a role in sound effect, eventhough you can wire it differently for ur Marantz CD94.
I dont think anyone around able to give u an idea how each IEC will sound. It is up to ur own sanity on how much u can afford to spend.

Re: Upgrade Power Cable From Flat plug
u can use the best powercord in the world but without proper grounding, it won't bring out the best sound from the powercord. try n get someone to change it to iec inlet socket to the player then only u can really call it an upgrade. this is how it look like http://www.electrostock.com/pdf/pdi_pdf/iecunfiltered_pdf/42r01_3x2x_xxx.pdf

Re: Upgrade Power Cable From Flat plug
Just to chime in a bit.
I believe its difficult to find audiograde after-market Figure-8 IEC and therefore Furutech is one of the few limited choices. There is 2 variety being gold and rhodium plated and I am using both for different equipment. I never used any other but before I went with the Furutech I was using the Clearer Audio adaptor on IEC head power cable. And with everything, there is differences and whether you like it or not..... Its always wiser to start on the cheaper stuff but its your money and sanity anyway.
For safety discussion, US plug is fuseless, so better check if your equipment come with its own internal fuse. US stuff current carrying ability are lower therefore beware it implication on a high current country like Malaysia. If you are going through some sort of surge protection/power re-generation that support US current rating, then its ok.. but if you on Malaysia rating which is twice of US, then do take the necessary percaution.
One final thing, do take note that the power cable itself are also rated differently. Not all US product are rated all the way to 250VAC but of course there are some power snake out there that can go all the way to 500VAC...

i find that thick cables require a US plug. try fitting a thick gauge cable to a UK plug. u can't even push the wire into the small hole of the pins and even if u can, u cannot screw in the cover of the plug and most of the time, the hole at the bottom of the plug is too small for the thick power cord.
Re: Upgrade Power Cable From Flat plug
There are in-line UK plug that except thick cable ie those outdoor/waterproof/weatherproof/iceproof cable but are not commonly available locally. Most local UK Plug are those bottom entry type and fit 13A wires that are normally less than 10mm thickness. The MK plug are made with 12mm entry point but recommended wires with 13A rating would fit. The audiograde power cable are made thicker due to all those extra shielding, dampening and such that not present in normal 13A rated cable. So that bring us to audiograde stuff like Furutech or Wattgate that are purpose-made for these thicker snake. But these specialised stuff are not cheap as its not generic product.
For normal usage, household appliance think dont need super thick snake. If you want to fit super thick cable, then you need to look for purpose-built stuff and those are normally not cheap....
