Power/Line Conditioner? Empty Power/Line Conditioner?

Post by lurvfi Tue Aug 04, 2009 9:38 pm

hi all,

I am new to HiFi and hope to get some advise from all the expert here. I have recently bought a AV Amplifier, Denon 1909 and Denon DVD player.

One of my friend wanted to sell me a line conditioner and said it will improve the sound and video quality as well as to protect from electrical surges. It is a china made called Bada LB-3300.

I also notice that the voltage is 220v for Bada but our voltage is 240v and also the hifi equipment. If i use the bada will cause harm to the existing hifi equipment? Any problem using the 220v equipment?

Is it worth spending to buy this equipment?

you probably get some improvement, but in a AV amp watching movie might not play the bang for the buck improvement, unless ur av amp is 5 digit number, that also depends on how sensitive are the equipments,

but it does one thing, it protects from lightning, if it is cheap ya, just get one, at least your mind will tell you ah, there is improvement,

It's ok to use the power conditioner with only 220v input, my Furutech is with 110v input & i am still using it daily without any problems.

If the price is ok with you, why not give it a try. some improvement will gain from it.

I have been using a low version of Bada LB-2200 for almost 6 months now. So far so good, no problem with it. It is a good point to raise the question between 220 vs 240. Anybody can share their view on this whether in long run, will it damage the amp and cdp.

Is the BADA conditioner just a passive device, or does it have its own active electronics and performs some fancypants AC signal regeneration at the output ?

Has anyone used the SINE SAF-30A power conditioner? If so, how do you rate its performance?

I refuse to believe too much in these power conditioners that merely contain 1st stage EMI filtering with a bunch of coils and Xrated caps. They do practically NOTHING if your home voltage is like a yo-yo on the high side (or inconsistent voltages) at 245V ( usual average at off peak times). Best bet and overall solution is still an appropriately sized servo control AVR set at 230VAC (no more no less) for your equipment.

Power/Line Conditioner? Empty Re: Power/Line Conditioner?

I am not sure what your power conditioner does. I have a voltage regulator with my Denon 1909. I spent an hour switching back and forth and I simply could not detect any different in sound quality.

There is already a build in power regulator/filter and whatnots within your equipment, and it should be more than enough for the power supply of most resident areas.

But I am keeping the voltage regulator anyway, because I know for certain that where I live the voltage does fluctuate like hell. My old Sony TV power supply got fried once, and light bulbs keeps blowing up constantly in my house.

Most one box source equipment and amplification have basic EMI filtering, but many can argue its insufficient and fitting something extra at the socket/plug distribution area may enhance effectiveness. Actually all this INCREASE capacitance of the mains wiring (including "audiophile power cables) and may affect/improve/degrade the sound with varying degrees and debatable opinions, moreover users MOSTLY praising their new found experience without any scientific data to backup their opinion. The quality of your Tenaga supplied AC electric voltage vary from place to place. Some are acceptable, some are really awry. It all depends. I still believe an isolating transformer with some regulation does more wonders than expensive power cables and fancy multiple EMI reduction boxes. Tube amplifiers can benefit more from a stable AC mains input than solid state amplifiers.
Anyway, don't go overboard with lots of expensive power cables and EMI filtering boxes that are not cheap. It may all upset the sonic balance and can actually do more sound degradation than improve it all. Yeah!.. perhaps anyone spent thousands on all these acquire bragging rights too. My 2 sen.
