When will Astro be broadcasting in HD?

It's shame when we already have the hardware (full hd screen) but the service provider don't.

I just came back from New York and almost all the channels are in HD..HBO, Universal movies, Netgeo, discovery, ESPN. Almost like experiencing blu ray quality..awesome.

In UK already started few years back, SKY HD and this is by far the best. But South Africa broadcasting in HD?...where are we?

Quality broadcasting is not for Malaysia bro, just like quality fuel. Ron95 will do and so will low defination.

It's all in the demand isn't it? HD means more expensive charges. If enough people care to pay more to see Desperate Housewives in HD, then I'm sure they will put in the capex for HD. Sadly, we live in a subsidised economy and cannot afford a lot of things. So we live with RON95 and blocky/blurry pictures on the TV.

More on topic, I heard there was a plan by RTM to do HD a number of years ago but the plan didn't go ahead apparently. It was one of those privatisation proposals. You know how that's a dirty thing these days.

I think the ppl in power is just too busy kow-towing to our neighbour down down south.

Astro has launched new satellite supposedly for HD broadcast but time is ticking and we are way behind...

Market leadership? What leadership? They can continue broadcasting in VCD defination for as long as they want and they will still be the leader here in bolehland. They'll just put in more channels at low def as an excuse to charge more.

Exactly, as they just excused themselves and charged more because of Sports channel content. Am thinking of unsubscribing and chuck the system out... its getting a bit on my nerves and lighten my monthly budget. I know many who refuse to subscribe and are very happy with other activities other than watching TV.

Hey CM, don't chuck it out. You can just terminate your account and still enjoy the free radio broadcasts.

I never watch astro, most of the time I dl contents from internet in HD form. Even a 3++MB size (RMVB) movie is way clearer than astro.

Never ever expect our country to broardcast hd even in 10 years time....they preferred to send First Malaysian to space and now F...1...... you know. So it's meaningless to continue this topic, let's forget about it and start buying blu ray movies ourselves......

I was very impressed with Sky HD when I was in UK early of this year

HD broadcasting is not meant for 3rd world country. Besides, those high and mighty guys need to work out who will get what before rolling out HD broadcasting

Actually for those with insider info, Astro's HD service is "in the works".

They've seem to realise how shitty their channels look especially since almost anyone who is buying a new LCD or Plasma TV is going HD already. So it's only a matter of time before ASTRO starts HD. But don't hold your breath for now...
