Marantz PM5004/PM6004 Bi-amping
sifus, may i kindly enquire is it feasible to biamp our speakers using a pair of the above amps?
reason being i noticed the pm5004/6004 are equipped with rca line out via their cd recorder/tape output connectors where we can fed into the 2nd amp for bi-amping solution...
if we were to do this, do you think would there be any audio lag experienced as the signal has to first go into the 1st amp to be processed and output into the 2nd amp before sending to the speaker HF terminals?...
reason being i already own one of the amp and would like now to biamp my speakers where i have thought of saving a few grands by just getting another similar amp...
your kind thoughts on the above matter is highly appreciated...

Its not wrong per se... But you will have to control 2 volume knobs ... One driving the tweeter and the other driving the woofer.

Re: Marantz PM5004/PM6004 Bi-amping
The answer is cannot, the reason is that the output via tape is fix volume. Mean that the volume will not control the output. You can bi-amping only if u have a dedicated pre-out in which the output varies according to the volume control. Hope this explanation helps!

Re: Marantz PM5004/PM6004 Bi-amping
Alamdamai1,
Yur right,u can do that, but you must adjust the second amp volume everytime you adjust the volume of the first amp. In another word, before you switch on the 2nd amp, you must make sure that the 2nd amp's volume is turned off or at the lower side because the first amp will give constant output even when the volume is set to zero at the first place. Tricky haaahh....but like u said take a little bit of skill.. and quite irritating at certain time.but if the sound you get is well worthit, why not.
actually, the original purpose of the output is to send constant signal to mainly cassette tape recorder in the old days in which the recorder have their own level control ( to control level of recording into the cassettte ). Shows how easy today to burn cds or transfer audio files compared to that time.
To tell u the truth, I also using PM5004 now... nice budget amp if partnered with matching speakers. hihi!!!

Re: Marantz PM5004/PM6004 Bi-amping
yeap, u r rite adcomer, its quite a hassle 2 adjust d volume of both int amps each time we 1 2 avoid disturbing d neighbours during loud tracks in a movie...
d reason i paired both int amps is 2 c what is d difference between a bi-amping setup compared 2 a single amp where i found it does makes a lot of improvements which i would soon post my findings in d equip review section...

Re: Marantz PM5004/PM6004 Bi-amping
Other alternative that u can do is to find a matching pre amp. Then you can use both amps as a power amp. One to drive the low, the other one to drive the high. But u must use rca splitter to split the output into 2.

Re: Marantz PM5004/PM6004 Bi-amping
Interesting approach with 1 pre amp and 2 integrated amps... But will it then means you have three volume knobs to control?

Re: Marantz PM5004/PM6004 Bi-amping
Yes. The bad thing is that the pre out will go through both of the pre amp section of the integrated. This usually will degrade the sound compared to using a power amp. But this depends on the system matching though. But you can always bypass the tone. The marantz's both have this function.
