Sony KHS-18 / KHS-180A laser [SCD 777ES]

solid head ,i love the built,the mechanism engineering is so much amazing and I would love to have spoil SCD777es [which must be cheap],plan to fix it & to compare with my Philips CD304.

I got one 777 in my hifi room, which the len doesn't read and I try to order the len from Europe.

i came to know they are few SCD777ES still waiting for a "healthy" laser,some are from singapore. The service technician told me these SACD laser head has much shorter life span compare to CDM9.[majority could last about 6 years if used frequently] or about 8year[low usage].
The replacement stock has alreday depleted in japan,malaysia,singapore[2009 my freind took one NEW for RM1500 ] region ,and SONY does not produce it since long long time ago.
Sony made about 2000 unit of SCD777ES sold to world-wide
Eventually it will consume all the spare heads[used] which may be still available from some part of the world especially europe when time comes..[may be another 5 years the used price could be asked for more than RM3000.]
Before it eventualy ended in garbage bin,it is wise to buy as many as possible to keep.I am not encourage new owner to purchase Sony SCD-1 or SCD777ES anymore,It is a too risky investment unless it comes with few spare "NEW"laser as a whole package.
One wise thing to do,buy as many as possible to keep first,start to google audiogon you will be start seeing many -dead SCD 777 ES for sale on dirt price.]
For your info,my freind bought the first SONY CD101 [made in 1982]first CDP on earth working unit but some skipping issue for USD50. The same thing could happen on their Flagship SCD-1.

I got a CDP-102 which I bought from Singapore in '85, too bad it doesn't read as well!

anyway the fact is SCD777ES sounded way way superior than the marantz SA-11S1 i came to know.But i think S2 could narrow down the GAP.So if anyone of you still spinning on a SCD-1 or SCD777ES dont need to get too much shock after this.

wow, BU-1 is supposed to last as long as CDM1.
557 is a real keeper,until today i havent got any chance to listen to it yet.

My previous sony X3000 not bad,sold to my best freind in Singapore.I passed him few Spared New laser to make him calm,i told him,this player can pass on to his son!
i heard the X5000 lasers is also not easy to get for replacement, our local dealer/reseller got NEW one,But in 4 figure range.oMG!
