Re: JumPan2 preamp by Wabun
No, I didn't, I have enough other work as it is, additionally, I run my source, pre and power in balanced mode, so felt I may not be able to assess it in the proper context.
Lau contacted me a year ago about his product and lest anyone has any doubts about this - we never turn down local manufacturers if they are willing to send their products for review, we've taken stuff in regularly over the years. No biases or prejudices, unlike some mags that say you must have X number of dealers or stuff like that ... if you don't see the products reviewed by us, well, then the manufacturer isn't passing them on for review.
In this case, I passed the work on to Lim Juan because he gets all excited about value-for-money products, local or otherwise, and he certainly uses local stuff too.
Incidentally, Lau himself has taken the comments in review in good spirit, which means he knows he has a good product and needs to work on the packaging. It was fair comment, perhaps with some flavour.
This has been my stand, for reviews or otherwise.
If you want an opinion, be prepared for what you will hear.
If you give an opinion, be prepared for any reaction.
It has kept me going for two decades.
As for Lau's product, well, he has created a buzz, so that's a big step for him from a year ago.

Had JumPan2 for almost 2 weeks now. So far I've not faced such problems. Mine just plugged directly to the wall socket. I just leave it on 24 hours.

When I met up with Mugenfoo the other day I was totally surprised that he was half chinese half punjabi and spoke fluent hindi, tamil, hainanese and hokkien. He could not speak cantonese though.
He was equally surprised that I was half german mixed with lain-lain.

Frankly speaking, I thought the STAR review were very well written. Describing an apple as it is. Just points out the areas that need to be improved.
However, a kinda personal from some of the forummers (or rather forummer) here is rather uncalled for (even with their previous 'spicy' history).
Being obnoxious simply by being able to own more expensive equipment and resorting to name calling is just not the M'sian way.

If you read the article, it's about music and 'hardware + software'. Also the last few para mentioned about all brands and people behind them, D'Agostino, Saul Marantz, Hiroyashi Kondo... and maybe wabun and mugen foo too. I find mugen's comments very passionate, maybe not to everyone's taste, but intelligent and very knowledgeable (see his other posts) and I personally find interesting. And Wabun, maybe the next Dennis had or messrs Conrad Johnson.. Maybe the part about Chesky somehow off the tangent.. Read the article bro.. hope u can get connected

Re: JumPan2 preamp by Wabun
I can see quite a number of supporters for this Wabun's preamp. As for me, this is really a poor 'half hearted' effort in producing an amp whether local or not! Such poor build quality will never get my vote even if it sounded good occasionally.
Btw, this is not the first amp he produced....why the flimsiness now? I believe the 'milo tin' build is not an exaggeration, not to mention the other negative comments. Just hope he put more passion in designing and producing his next project.
Mugen,
Don't put me in that list pls..........Hey, want to do a direct preamp test your Krell vs my Lux? Just kidding!

Perhaps Wabun only had " Never judge the book by it's cover" in mind prior to designing the Pre amp and mistakenly overlooked the importance of the solid pre amp chassis to the sound quality.

Very much looking forward to the "much better than JumPan2" Pre Amp "designed and manufactured" by some of the know-everthing hifi masters of Hifi4sale forumers who snort JumPan2.
Hopefully these newly designed " much better than JumPan2" Pre amps will be awarded triple A by Stereophile magazine and make us proud.

Re: JumPan2 preamp by Wabun
Thanks everyone for your commen, suggestion, critics and your time for this JumPan. I appreciate your input and some of you are really creative in using words you should see improvement in my next product soon. The Star editor has did a very good job in review the JumPan2, he has very sharp observation and good ear. Local product should not ask for any special treatment like what our nation car did. user should see local vs imported gear equally and should have same expectation especially in sound too. beside built quality, the JumPan2 is capable to compete with imported gear 2 - 4 times higher priced than it.
You do not need to believe what I said, but you can just dropby Ipoh or PM me for a test out at your side and judge by yourself, is the JumPan sound worth the price it ask for.
