Re: Rega RP1 performance
No nonsense, entry level Rega TT. Its a lightweight, decent sonic quality British made budget priced TT, performance potential also depend on quality of rest of the components like cartridge (MM or MC), phono stage and quality of records being played. Quite straight forward actually, more money paid for higher Rega model, build quality is improved and better potential as a TT source.
What else you'd like know?

Re: Rega RP1 performance
IMHO, Rega P2 is some margin better build than RP1 which is supposed to supercede or better than former P1.
I've no idea how long you intend to keep it, what you could afford or just no fuss TT. All Rega are supposed to be no fuss TT out of the box. If you want for long term and still insist on Rega, then I can suggest you look out for a Rega P3, P3-24, newer or higher models. Obviously the higher the model, the higher the potential. I leave it to you hereon and whatever that pleases you.
Best regards.

Hi Choontoy,
Once you enter the LPs warning zone, your mindset will change and budget will increase. This is base on my experience but it is fun.

I've not seen for myself for real, but from an owner video clip and others posted in some TT forum. Not a good thing and warranty must be claimed if bought new and from authorized dealer. Asia Sound is local distributor for Rega equipment.
Any turntable should not pose this problem otherwise its a reject. I've not seen nor heard any of this in past Rega models.
All Rega TT platter is removable and can be checked for flatness. Subplatter supporting the platter can also be visually checked for flatness. I reckon its only these 2 components responsible for perfect flatness.
Again, please use own judgement by ear or budget to acquire a TT that you'd be happy with. Its to your own judgement for total satisfaction when buying anything preowned.

Re: Rega RP1 performance
choontoy, are you referring to the shop at one-stop mall, penang? if yes, i had similar experiences as well, they gave reason not to spoil the cartridge.

Re: Rega RP1 performance
Hi...
Mind you a Rega warranty is not transferable eventhough the potential TT is still under warrantty.

Re: Rega RP1 performance
Hi Guys,
DO not expect much from the budget version of rega turntable. My P1 wobble too +/-1mm.
The only convenient way to check it is to have the turntable switch on. Make your eye level with the top surface of the platter.
For budget rega player, the most likely cause of wobble could come from the cheap plastic molded subplatter.
Whatever the case, chances you wont hear any ill effect of sound even when it wobble, not in this budget range.
Best way to counter this problem is to go buy those after market subplatter and platter.
