Celestion Loudspeakers
Hi all,
Does anyone know what happened to Celestion in recent years? They used to produced great speakers, the SL6 series, and was among the first to educate re proper speaker stands and the first manufacturer to sell dedicated stands for the SL6 .
Whereas Celestion speakers for guitar amps combo and standalones are still very popular till today.
Cheers

Hi Mugen,
Yeah yet another one aye? When it happens more often than not the legacy falters. Design and business philosophy once intertwined usually break apart and then the Brand just goes into oblivion. Shame.

Re: Celestion Loudspeakers
Yup fabulous speakers. Wonderful sound. Easy pairing with amps. Still running my first pair of SL6si from 1988. Sometimes I pair it with my Musical Fidelity B200. Occasionally I would like to pair it with my AVR Onkyo 607 to get a better ooomph!!
My satisfaction is now fulfilled with my recent addition of Celestion SL700SE from a forumer on this site. Comes with original stands, this pair can really sing.

Re: Celestion Loudspeakers
Hi Ritchie,
One of the few jaw dropping hifi experience for me was in the early 80s in a dealer listening room, Portsmouth, England. A pair SL6s on their dedicated stands driven by Exposure pre/power with a Linn Sondek front end spinning Sadao Watanabe. Memories still linger in my mind.
Here was a pair of beautifully crafted smallish speakers with a box proportion unlike the norm (then), small frontal area and very deep in proportion. Only the active Meridians looked similar then.
I'm sure they'll still astound me with their magic today as they did then. Can I come round and listen to them one day Ritchie?
Rgds.

Sure, can. Music is to be enjoyed. If this joy can be shared, why not? But, pls, don't expect any thousand dollars connects. With Celestions, I have not find the need...not now yet.
I was enchanted by my first audition of the Celestions Sl6si. They were only available in Singapore then. Those guys seems to know a thing or two as how to buy our hearts out. Know what, they hooked up the Celestions with the Musical Fidelity B200 and spinned out a Tracy Chapman's first CD out of a Philips CD840. I fell in love with the whole setup. I have the exact setup as per their demonstration and still enjoy the SAME thinggys as days yonder!!! And I am just as emotional as when I play my Tracy Chapman. How many out there still have such feellings?
Cheers

Re: Celestion Loudspeakers
Ritchie,
Depends what kind of music bro.
If you like folk/country rock, then check out James Taylor albums, Crossby, Stills, Nash and Young 'Deja Vu' album, America albums.
For Jazz there is Acoustic Alchelmy, Earl Klugh, Al di Meola, Lee Ritenour latin moods.
You can get them any of the bigger stores.
Cheers.

Ritchie,
So you are the lucky one who bought the 700 from Loy. I would like listen to your 700 if permit.
I am also a fan of Celestion. Its tonality clicks for me. Do know why?

Was already eyeing to expand towards Sl600. However I saw this beauty at Loy begging me to bring it home. With the Sl700SE sitting on top of a pair of shapey legs is too much to resist!!! Even old timers of Celestions like me can go orgasmic!!! Heeeehee..
Waaa another admirer of Celestion? I think we can have this 700 baby and my Sl6si set up at Wan Azami Hamzah's place and we can have a satay get-together. I can order satay from Haji Suhaimi of Kajang Satay and you guys bring Coke, 100 plus or whatever you fancy.
Bro Wan Azami Hamzah, where are you located. I am from Damansara.

Celestions can throw it's music right in front of you. You can more or less feel the singers presence in front of you. That kind of staging is always felt when playing acoustic with vocals. It makes you want to join in the singing, especially while playing it out LOUD.
CH, pm me your contact. Once Wan Azami Hamzah gets things going, or rather hooked up, I'll sms you.
Meanwhile, enjoy your music.....

Re: Celestion Loudspeakers
Hey Guys,
I'm honored. Sure thing, I love satay and coke.
Someone has to help me carry my heavy valve amp downstairs to my living room though, as I do my listening in the bedroom. My Linn Sondek is waiting for a new belt so my Systemdek turntable will have to do for now. We can also use my Rotel cd player. Tomorrow night I'm free. PM me your contacts.

Re: Celestion Loudspeakers
Guys,
Well I'm waiting for confirmation on this Celestion party, was suggesting tomorrow nite but I guess too short a notice. Leave it to Ritchie to organize then. I have everything to hook up the Celestions to, just bring the satay and coke (and beer) if you like. Im not good 27th of this month thru to 4 Dec, will be in Kenya for work. Then Christmas to New Year will be in Bandung for holiday.
Cheers

Re: Celestion Loudspeakers
Bro Wan,
I am in KD too, Sect.6
Is this Satay/Coke session ON? Might bring along my DIY amps (I have 3) for the listening sessions..
BTW,
My first set speakers was a Celestion Ditton 100, low end coz on 'student budget'.(circa 1981/82)
Have heard the SL6 and later SL6s.. great speakers in the 80's but still could not afford them on scholarship money.. Have not owned any Celestion till now..

Ok lets try 2nd week of Dec. Pls PM each other soon. Jazzy look forward to hear your diy amps. If low powered I got efficient Mission 752s. Or else we listen them through the Celestions. It's Celestion nite anyway and I'm looking forward to rekindle their magic.

Wan,
2nd. week of Dec looks good to me!
Those amps are quite okay in power except one T-Amp which is about 8W.
We see how lah!
I'll bring along my other DIY stuffs as well..
BTW, we'll be using TT as the main source?
It's gonna be one Celestion nite to remember!

Re: Celestion Loudspeakers
Jazzy,
Great. Look forward to that. At least we don't have to wrestle bringing down my
heavy Jadis amp downstairs and use yours instead.
TT nothing great, is either (Linn Sondek with LVX plus arm if I can get a new belt in time), or Systemdek 2X-900 with Rega arm. Bet you never heard a Systemdek before. It's not bad at all. Phono stage is Acurius. I've a good selection of lps ( some need cleaning) so you can choose whatever.
Bawa beer sendiri ok. Hehe.
Cheers.

Roger that! We'll use my amp! (at least 2 to choose, hoping to finish the 3rd one in time )
Of course I have! I am a proud owner of Sytemdek II! The first version
Mine is with AT1100 tonearm and (used to be) AT30e MC cart.
Well, I'll bring along my LPs too.. and my DIY phono stage to boot..
Gonna be a long nite, huh?

Re: Celestion Loudspeakers
Hey guys, sorry went MIA for the last 2 days. I am presently busy chaperoning an old overseas Japanese friend who decided to spend the next 10days or so with me while visiting Malaysia.
So, Wan, I think you have made a good decision. We can tentatively plan it a Pre-Christmas gathering. Perhaps you should also invite SNWong and any others, not just for Celestion only. We can broaden the subject base, and, just to say hello might do also . Just in case, somebody can bring a pot of fried noodles, another some fried chicken wings. And don't forget the ice cubes.
Meanwhile, Wan should be doing all the liasing. I should be available 2nd or 3rd week of December. Meanwhile spin your cds. and enjoy.

I am not done yet. My visitor is still around and any spare time I have will be accompanying my wife for her year end shopping and window dressing. MIGHT have to carry forward to a POST Christmas gathering. If my present visitor decides to call it quits earlier, I'll call you ASAP to get things going. /Ritchie Tay
