Remembering Bai Guang & Zhou Xuan: a mini concert

20^th century, from the 1930 to 1940s, was China's most glorious period in terms of Chinese pop music (Shi Dai Qu) compositions.

Life then during this prime period of Shanghai was considered opulent, colorful and at the same time decadent. It was an era full of surprises, an era of art and culture, an era of big spenders and lavish living, but also an era full of ironies. At that time, everything was rose tinted, hugely romantic and exquisite.

This was the time when some of the most prominent Chinese songstresses were born, among whom were Zhou Xuan in the 1940s, dubbed “The Golden Voice” and Bai Guang in the 1950s, also nicknamed “The Ultimate Vamp”. Their influences to the generations of Chinese singers decades later were too immense. Even up till today, many are doing cover versions of their classic hits.

Leading the tribute show is pop pop music’s leading songstress Winnie Ho, who has been absent from the live scene for close to a year for her sabbatical. Partnering her on the stage is May Mow, the up-and-rising star, groomed by pop pop music. Both singers have contrasting vocals stylistic and showmanship; it will be an exciting showcase of retro elegance and vocal prowess.
