Re: vintage Sansuis, Luxmans and Pioneers
highcut28, jazzy929,
Let the advertiser put whatever price he deemed fit.....after all it is his property and we ourselves can calculate whether it is worth the price or not !!! You can opt NOT TO BUY or you bargain
before you buy. Remember that in ebay usa and Canada, the price of items
(not only Amps but almost everything) is Damned cheap !!!
But you try to bid in ebay and see whether you can successfuly win
the item on that price.......and also Please calculate how much do you need
to pay for DHL, UPS or whatever Courier you choose to From the USA to say,
Kuala Lumpur....Not counting exchange rate and Custom Tax.......
I recently won a bid for AU-717 for USD 305 X 3.5 = RM 1067. DHL
charges is RM 68 PER KILO X 21 = RM 1428 (NOT COUNTING Custom TAX yet)
total now is : RM 2495. So in the end I contact ebay and cancell my purchase.
It is more cheaper to get from Singapore or China's " Flea Market ". And
while the item is available locally and if that is the Model I am looking for, to
me it is still cheap........You can surft google echoloft buy/sell (singapore) Hifi
and see for yourself the price of used Hi Fi be it Modern or Vintage......and
after exchane rate, you bring in in to Malaysia, let see how much you pay for the S*****G Gov't TAX !!!

Re: vintage Sansuis, Luxmans and Pioneers
antaklugom,
Agreed! As such I will NOT buy if I thinks its a rediculous asking price but then again if I badly want it...
I do not mind buying locally but other than the high asking price, there's not enough stuffs and people wanting to sell... Ebay shipping's gonna kill us, what other choices do we have..?
Okay.. I can always dream..
BTW, that AU-717, how much should it be worth? Errmm may be I should not ask this here..

Re: vintage Sansuis, Luxmans and Pioneers
Hi Jazzy and Antaklugom
Have a read of this
http://www.pinkfishmedia.net/forum/showthread.php?t=72732
i put up an eBay link of a seller in Spore looking for a ridiculous price for an old sme 3012 arm.
I knew i would get a few funny responses from 'pinkfishers'
Prices on eBay can be crazy.
Apparently u can buy new items in UK, eg accessories for Linn LP12 cheaper than some eBay sellers advertise.
The public may be duped into thinking the if its on eBay its cheap!!
What to do?
We have to pay shipping some more - a few years ago i bought guitars from Japan! so i know!
Quoting Jazzy: Agreed! As such I will NOT buy if I thinks its a rediculous asking price but then again if I badly want it...
Yep i know what u mean. I have succumbed to a couple of vintage valve amps too

Re: vintage Sansuis, Luxmans and Pioneers
I dont know the price there in Semenanjung but here in Kuching, Sarawak, I was introduced by a friend (middleman) who said a friend of his wanting to sell an AU-717 for RM 1500 but finally owner decided not to sell and keep the Amp. He sold the lower model to me AU-517 for RM1200.
As I am a Sansui collector, I personally make offer if the condition is
a " Near Mint " or better still, in a Mint condition ( if that is the Amp that I am looking for......) I will not buy a batterred and faded looking Vintage Amp......
I even tried Singapore ( I have echoloft members there ) but already cannot
find any for Sale there. There are many owners there who prefer to keep it for
themselves. The Funny thing is that I managed to buy the more Rarer AU-9500
from Singapore because the seller mistakenly Advertised it as SR-9500 (there
is no such model no), so I rang him up and confirmed that it is an AU-9500)
Because AU-9500 is already Rare here......But in USA, the price was still
quoted quite low around USD 200 Starting bid but will end up to the successful
bidder to around USD 600. For Technical info : AU-717 IS 85 Watts per Channel into 8 ohms and AU-517 is 65 Watts per Channel into 8 ohms.
AU-717 are quoted to perform better than AU-517 but AU-9500 perform better than AU-717 but AU-717 will beat AU-9500 on the Stringed Instrument details. (ie Guitar, Cello or Voilin) Au-9500 has more Dynamics and Tight clean Bass....

Re: vintage Sansuis, Luxmans and Pioneers
highcut28,
First of all, the ebay prices.... ( ebay USA and Canada). The prices of almost anything on ebay is undeniably CHEAP !!! Yes, but if for comparison with the same item (s) sold in Shop. (USA and Canada) Take for example, a BA-5000 Sansui Power Amp sold in dedicated Vintage Amp shop in USA is around USD 1995 (RM 6,982.50) but in ebay USA, it is put up at USD 995 Starting Bid and USD 1200 (RM 4,200) if you buy Outright from seller. So you can see big difference here.
But against our Local market, it is only " cheap " if we compare prices and NOT Actually buying it. Sansui BA-5000 weight a hefty 40 plus Kgs.
and Translate that into RM 58 Per Kilo to destination within Semenanjung
Malaysia, that will be RM 2,320 just for Airfreight alone. (Exclude Custom Tax) Two days ago, the same seller of AU-9500 that I bought, sms me offering SGD 2500 for his Sansui BA-5000 Power Amp but I told him I will only consider buying at SGD 1800 X 2.56 (RM 4,608) and that haven't counted how much our Custom will charge me upon entry to Malaysia.
I am not collecting Valve (Tube) Amp. I am only collecting
Solid State Integrated Amps. I have some people offering the coveted
Sansui AU-111 Tube Amp (The best Sansui ever produce) Last night another
contact in Singapore offered me SGD 3800, but I am not interested at the
moment. This Amp has been widely explained by me in the other Thread
under Vintage Sansui Amp page 2 and 3 so please do read it if you are
interested. If you want to buy or just to ask about that AU-111 (All Original
6L6GC Tubes and ofcourse Original Hashimoto Transformer, you can PM me
as this Singaporean doesn't want his HP number to be given openly.
Just three weeks ago, one of our Forummer here sold his AU-111
Original Tube Amp for RM 3,800 - to a Doctor who DID NOT EVEN BARGAIN....

him not to reveal...heh....heh....heh ) He is enjoying that elusive and Rare

I had a 217 II in the 80s.
Capable little amp but nothing special really.

and " point to point " Circuit. This is the " Pretender " to the Tube Amp Sound.
