Re: imitation Oyaide
I think a better description to use would be "locally made, local version of the Oyaide US type plug", for its more affordable price and reasonable quality (we hope).

Re: imitation Oyaide
another way to call it is "Oyaide made in China type".
but seriously, what is the point of using fake stuff? how sure r u tht they are of acceptable quality? they may be worse than the mass-market type of components.
u might as well use relatively cheaper genuine parts from a reputable company.
u can get very good performance from cheaper genuine parts.
for e.g. furutech (genuine) is abt half the price of oyaide (genuine) but i think they are just as good. a genuine furutech is definitely much better than a fake Oyaide.

Re: imitation Oyaide
I am actually thinking of replacing my US plugs to those Furutech plugs.
I am using an adapter to convert the US plug to UK design.
US plug cannot be used with my power cord extension.
Too bad...

Re: imitation Oyaide
I would agree with sflam. If not, then just get one of those imported MK 3-pin plugs, take out the 13amp fuse and solder a thick wire across the fuse holder lar.

you can get Furutech uk main plug FI 1363 G
dont use any converter. This will spoil your sound quality.

Re: imitation Oyaide
for some reason, there are more audiophile us plugs than audiophile uk plugs.
just google audiophile uk plug and u will find only the silver-plated MK three-pin plug and the furutech uk plug.

Re: imitation Oyaide
Errrrr, I really hope I won't unintentionally offend anyone. But all these super expensive exotic type plugs, they do make a difference but they are really only worthwhile if the system is high-end enough. For the more down to earth systems, a high quality MK three pin plug where the 13-amp fuse is bypassed can return quite surprisingly good quality already. So the extra offered by exotic plugs in the more 'normal' systems are not really worth the much higher cost involved. All my opinions only of course.

It would probably cost more than the power cord itself *sweat*sflam wrote:for some reason, there are more audiophile us plugs than audiophile uk plugs.

These are the best in built quality and they can accomodate very thick cables. MK Plug can only fit in up to 10mm diameter cables, unless if you wish to strip off the outer shield for the termination.

Changing wall receptacle to US type is a solution.

Re: imitation Oyaide
I only have one power cord using the US plug.
The others are UK. So, I am thinking of changing the one and only.
Hmm.. I guess 10mm diameter is ok since the power cord is not that thick.

Wouldn't it be better to just solder the live wire of the chord directly to the live pin?

yes, this is possible too.
To me, my experience taught me that accessories are exactly what their name says : accessories. When the system is complete and well-balanced, accessories helps to extract the maximum out of them. But they too should be properly matched to the rest of the system as well.
I hate to say this but I suppose I can 'soften' it by saying I too was in this 'trap' once. Often when we yearn for but can't afford or can't justify a true high-end component, we then make ourself believe that we can take a lower-end equipment and accessorize or modify it and make it outperform the high-end equipment.
But just like how a smart and honest Honda fan will freely admit that no amount of modification can make a Type-R outclass a Ferrari Modena 360 or Lamborghini Diablo, sadly the hifi world works the same way too.
I have seen people buy a cheaper amp, then do mods to power supply, power cable, this and that, thinking it will make the amp sound better than established high-end amps. But in all honesty, it is not going to be very likely to happen to say the least. And the danger is sometimes we get carried away and we actually spend so much money, we could have bought a higher end amp in the first place. Not to mention the time spent modify this, modify that and not listening/ enjoying the music.
When the system is complete and well matched/balanced, accessories can be very surprisingly effective. But just like we don't buy diamond studded Rolex watch if we are mere salaried workers (or at least I don't ! ), I personally feel we should be sensible in choosing the accessory to match our system. Some super expensive accessory works well in super high-end system but really won't deliver a lot more than a more cost-effective alternative.
My personal opinions only lar.
