Re: universal remote
Logitech remote cover most popular equipment, even my Panasonic split air con.
As far as I'm concerned its ok ok lah..as I've got the Harmony 525 model which suffice me and what I think I've should have spent max on a RC. I don't like the programming side as one must have a broadband connection and do the programming online. I dread to think if one have no broadband or still on dial-up. I still have a Marantz RC5000 which I bought for a huge sum many years ago. It was a great piece of RC and very customizable, only that its bulky and the LCD touchscreen leaves a lot to be desired.

Re: universal remote
yeah these babies are awesome ....
if can, get the Krell universal touchscreen remote.
Definitely 100% in the "cool factor" dept.
some shops may be clearing stock of them online on eBay....
cheap cheap good good.

Re: universal remote
I always into cheapest or best value all in one remote so that if its kaput or subjected to some abuse by other family members, I won't get too heartsick if its broken. I'd keep the ori remote away, and use them as last resort. Thats why my equipment if sold off in future, does have its ori remote in prestine condition (unless it was a bit worn down from previous owner). My Astro remote is Jalan Pasar quality..because its the most abused. I keep a few around for spare.

Re: universal remote
Unsure about this but I'm wary of some remotes that can eat batteries for breakfast. I think those with complicated or color display may be high on batts. I suppose best is those without display and the simpler the better.
My Harmony 525 can last a bit more than 6 months on Alkaline batts.

Re: universal remote
I notice programming the Logi remote via software based on web button preset recommendations may not suit everyone. You've to carefully review the button assignment and customize them to suit you fully. There's evidently a lot of unnecessary, unsuable or redundant buttons which may or not apply to your equipment model added into the remote. Once you've reviewed and fully approved the assignments, only then update the remote. One thing good about the software, is that your customization is stored online and can be retrieved anytime, anywhere.
Its not a perfect or ideal solution so you've to edit to suit or reduce the clutter. Unlike my previous Marantz Rc5000, they somehow provide a base set for that model and you can alter them by adding, change the layout to your satisfaction. Entirely different animal altogether, not to mention the price difference. For Logitech, be well versed and practice well with the programming software to make the best out of it.

Re: universal remote
I use Nevo software on my ipaq PocketPC (it came pre-loaded)
Has learning capabilities and touchscreen control.
New devices can be downloaded from Nevo website.
Right now using it to control almost everything in the living hall, my audio set included.

I think you are refering to the 1000i or 1100 model. I am using 1000i model. It can work with any hifi equipments. I dont see why it cannot work with high end as well. Currently,I am using to control my Rega CDP, Sony MD, Sony Blu Ray, DVD, Yamaha AV, Philips DVD+HD recorder, Samsung LED TV, ASTRO and even my national air cond unit.
Not sure where to get it here in Malaysia. I bought it in Perth. Cost me about RM750.
