Visiting KL next week need advise
I am visiting KL with my family next week we are from Australia, and I was wondering if anyone had recomendations for shops that might sell inexpensive hifi or chinese gear? Also shop that might sell good quality inexpensive DIY parts.
Also other electronics gadgets.
I was looking at Audio Synthesis at Amcorp mall is this worth a visit?
Any help is very much appreciated.
Thanks
Jack

Re: Visiting KL next week need advise
for china-brand stuff, yeah , definitely do visit amcorp mall. They got a few shops carrying china stuff.
Another good DIY place is Octave Electronics. Its in a bungalow thats converted for business, and its also very near Amcorp mall.
Suggest you plan your trips via Google Maps and you'll get to visit these locations efficiently.
Then another place for hifi stuff is JAYA-ONE Complex (also not too far from Amcorp mall) , with about 2 or 3 hifi shops. The Distributor for B&W is here, and another for McIntosh. And there's another shop that has a selection of new vinyl for sale if you're into vinyl.
So, places to visit (if the spouse/etc doesnt go ballistic):
- Amcorp Mall
- Octave (which is nearby amcorp)
- Jaya-One ( B&W, Audio Perfectionist, Nova Hifi)
.
Google is your best friend.

Re: Visiting KL next week need advise
Prices of used vinyl here are on the high side when compared to the American and British market. Moreover, most of the used LPs are either in fair or below average condition. Most local audio enthusiasts who are in UK or US on a holiday trip usually cart back tonnes of vinyl as large collection of mint(and rare) records can be found at relatively cheaper prices.
Prices of audiophile CDs are higher than Hong Kong and US market, not too sure how they would compare with Australian's prices.
It might be a better idea to enjoy Malaysian food rather than shopping around for hifi gears here. :-)

sunway lagoon suxx . Theme parks ain't exactly malaysia's forte.
.... if your kids like some outdoorsy stuff, Perak has some places like limestone caves and the lot. There are plenty of Nature stuff outside of KL, like in Perak state and or Pahang state.
The state of Melaka has some nice touristy spots, being the first place where the western world (the Portugese) first left their mark on this part of the world.
The island of Langkawi is beautiful, but will need some fore-planning if you wanna fit it in your trip here.
Things to eat, go ahead and be adventurous, but not sure how "resillient" are your tummies to the spicy food and ever so slightly less-hygienic street food. Its like how westerners get the runs when they come here, and the same case when we local folk go to places like India. But generally no biggie. Just pack some rehydration salts and you guys will be fine, just in case. Don't worry, no outbreaks of Cholera or the Bubonic plague here.

Re: Visiting KL next week need advise
Sorry jack, i just now realised that you are an australian and have not understand what we are saying as we use our Malaysian language, Bahasa Malaysia. Anyway welcome Jack to our country.
As most electronics items are cheaper here compare to Australia except for fruits. Ampcorp mall is good place to start if you looking for hifi gears. There are few hifi shops in ampcorp mall. If you into regas why not pay Asia Sound a visit, get an apollo and hand carry it back. A&L also around the other corner great place to check out and many more shops in that mall.
