DIY Section @ KLAV 2011
There are many able diyer who may be interested to show their products/ creation and let people audition. many of the gear are very well made .
Is there any possibility of a diy hi fi room at the show?
Is there enough interest and how to get the resources to run this ?
Would the administrator of the site be interested ?
Open the topic for discussion .
regards

Great idea if they could have a DIY section. Plus the DIYers could promote their builds. Who knows someone might be interested

I got a feeling it'll be a conflict to the main theme of KLAV.

I think it would be more a matter of cost. I understand rental of a room would cost several thousand ringgit. Then there is the issue of personnel manning the room. If the room is for the showcase of DIY, then I don't think any dealer, to be fair to them, would be interested to sponsor the rental.

I have the good opportunity to be invited to private homes to listen to both commercial and DIY systems. I am always highly impressed with the high quality of DIY systems and they do sound very-very good. Any opportunity to listen to more DIY system are always appreciated.
Alas, AV fest may not be a tough proposition for DIYers to exhibit their "own build" - rental cost of venue, effort in manning of room, printing information flyers, etc. Even if the exhibitor provides an area FOC for DIY's, it would be a logistical challenge to move equipment around and skills of ad-hoc "tuning" a room to show case how good a DIY system can be. Wow - it would all take mammoth effort and passion to make it happen.
As a DIY hobbyist, I am keen to know of other DIYers for sharing information and experiences. Having an active DIY club may be a start. And perhaps, for this club to consider having a representation in future events.
I guess in the interim, being invited to fellow DIYer's home to listen to their DIY system is both a privilage and the next best thing.

I believe the organiser is more than welcome to have DIYer at the show by taking up a room to showcase DIY products.
As for sponsorship for the room ('cheaperest' is around RM5K), maybe some kind soul can chip in.
As for this year, I was told that all the rooms have been taken up. LG is the last member on board of the KLIAV. Some even missed the boat.

after uncountable setups i have auditioned all these years, only 3 setups i miss and coincidentally i could recognise similar ingredients in there:
- alnico magnetism
- single-ended tube amplification
out of the 3, 2 setups come with huge altec drivers driven by diy 300b single ended amplifiers while the last setup is waiting for me at home
cheers

Re: DIY Section @ KLAV 2011
For DIER who really wish to do that.
May be can try to get sponsor from part/component manufacture/distributor (e.g Mundorf and so on, maybe promitheus can have a hand in it as well), it will be win win situation where the component dealer can promote and sell their component and diyer can demonstrate there equipment and showcase on the sound differences of varias components.
It will be easier than getting sponsor from commercial equipment dealer as it is conflict of interest to them.

Re: DIY Section @ KLAV 2011
Hi all
Thanks for the comments.
The consensus is that the main obstacle is financial.
Maybe , we can organize a smaller show for diyers in malaysia in a cheaper and smaller venue .This is not necessary in KL to keep expenses low.
My idea is to demonstrate the fun of diy hi fi and it is possible to get good sound with minimal outlay.
cheers

Re: DIY Section @ KLAV 2011
The idea is good though but keep in mind KLAV has its own agenda and that is marketing. DIY sectionis better to be share among pure lover which is very a small community apart from the hifi scene in malaysia.
DIY is not kinda cup of tea for every one. I remember 3 years ago in KLAV, people just come and go to Yeo's Diyparadise room which is full with horns speaker, the most beautiful horns i ever seen besides his famous NOS dac and Charlize T-amp which sold over the world. When i went there, it just me and other few uncle sitting crutinizing the horns and leave. There's no enthusiastic shown. That's why Yeo said he won't participate again in the future. Most people are still skeptic about diy and that is a bed thing here.
For 5K i don't think it would be a worthwhile. Sponsors...hmmmm

Guys,
Our fellow Diyers over in S'pore has done it before and going to do it again soon....

I attended it before and some of the DIY gears are fantastic.
It will be great to have one locally but someone will need to take the lead to organise it...
