Made in Belgium (Phillips CD 101) In other words, pretty 1983's old school. It was pretty hard to fault overall, still plays most new CD's include Cd'rs , very well built[ British James Bond 007 gadget] as compared to the current generation cd players using [Bit stream DAC – CDS2,CDS3,CDX2.. etc]. I'd say it sounded more natural and analog. It also sounded pretty close to Zero-oversampling DACs, and i prefer it to anything else.It has warmth, presence & all the detail I ever wonder & very close to analogue sounding - not at all bright, harsh or coarse , 1540s/1541s player really sounds fantastic! Very musical in contrast to many modern players.
Send the CD101 to sifu to mod [not sinful], turn it into another Giant slayer...

In the right N`aim system the CD101 is a forgotten hero for good reason. The older 1540 chips do seem to have an earthy quality to them.
1540s have been the one around for decades, made listeners into believers .Dug out spirits from the music, which touches the heart and soul of most listeners whilst N`aim amplification injecting the elemental PRAT spirit into the whole system.

note: This is a VERY RARE version of CD101 with CDM0 mechanism not the later version [CDM1]..One of my ultimate private collection.
I have confirmed the CD101 boards are 100% identical and similar to CD100.
The CD101 comes with better outlook and smoother lid opening mechanism than CD100.
