Ways to remove tight and rusty screw Empty Re: Ways to remove tight and rusty screw

Remove from what? hifi equipment? some machine? some what?

There's various methods of removing stuck fasteners. WD40 isn't always the last word or the means to an end. Its only an aid for easier problems.
If some of you have watched one Astro program, Kings of Restoration, one frequent method is applying heat to rusted fasteners to remove it effectively and surely.
Kindly provide more details if you require specific advice.

Ok remove from speakers, wanted to replace those rusted screw but too tight to remove. Penetrating oil like WD-40 didn't work

If the screw is screwed into metal, you could heat it up, get the metal to expand, and get it out. A few heat/cool cycles should help. But if it is screwed into wood, then you don't have this option.

I suppose the remaining option is to drill out the screw.

A proper recommendation would be best if there's a picture of the actual problem. Worst case is to carefully grind it off with a hand grinder or Dremel tool, if available. Then find and fit new fasteners.

That is a socket screw, ita should be able to unscrew with soem force. U can still apply wd40, but very minimum, dont let it soak too much into the wood. After the wd40, wait 5 min, then use soem force to unscrew it.
If the hex head socket is completely loose. U ned to do grinding or drilling to get rid of the head. Not easy job, if u r not diy inclined, get soemone with good enough skill to do itq. As it is very easy to accidentally poke a hole into the driver, if u r not careful enough.

I feel the best is using battery drill with minimum force. This will give you the vibration to unscrew it. Also make sure your drilling key bit is actual size to prevent damaging the screw head.

Mr. Public Holiday,
Never, never use a grinder near a speaker, the flying debris will be attracted by the powerful magnet and instantly kill any speaker.
I would suggest:
1) get a strainght type of exact size hexagonal Allen Key and insert
into the stuck screw. Use a small size hammer, knock lightly
several times with extreme care.
2) spray CRC 5.6 or WD 40 sparingly into the side of the shaft of the
stuck screw. Leave it for about 15 min.
3) now, replace with a L-shape Allen Key, turn it a bare hand about
1/4 turn clockwise, slowly with extreme care.
You may now attempt to turn it anti-clockwise lightly, if that
failed, repeat the same as Item 1) and 2)
4) Never try hard to turn a stuck screw, it may break its head, and
you are going to have hard time to remove the broken shaft.
