Yes, he is a nice guy & my condolences to all who knew him well. No idea what actually happened.

Ultimate sound. I believe I bought my Parasound 5 channel amp from him. No wonder the name sounds so familiar. Very nice person to deal with. My condolences to his family.

Never met the guy and although I wasn't buying anything from him he was helpful and freely gave advice to a newbie and all this was just thru the telephone. Nice guy.

ya... received the SMS yesterday, feel very sad. Bought 2 amps, few cables from him. Steve is a very nice guy and can chat with me for hours, I still remember the last time I sit down having tea with him in his shop. Maybe next week I'll go over to Ampang Park hopefully will be able to meet someone there and find out what actually happend to him.
Rest In Peace my dear friend...

Re: Sad news for hi-fi kaki - Steve Chan, Ultimate Sound
I still don't believe it. Received an SMS from Steve to tell me his shop was open on raya. Then received another sms from Steve's phone yesterday to inform that he had passed away. Just like that.
I still can't believe he's gone. He was such a generous and fun person and made everyone feel welcome at his shop. You could sit for hours at his shop and talk about anything under the sun and he would serve you exotic chinese tea.
Goodbye my dear friend. May you rest in peace.

Re: Sad news for hi-fi kaki - Steve Chan, Ultimate Sound
Dear Friends,
Steve Chan was a dear friend of mine and ours. He is such a humble young man. He was 42 when he left us...Yesterday I went to his memorial at the Nilai Memorial in Cheras. His body should have been cremated this morning as told by his brother.
I was celebrating Hari Raya these few days and it really shocked me that very nite the day he was found gone at his appartment. I was informed by another friend of mine who met him the nite before and I could not sleep till wee bit hours the next morning.
So sad because he is a nice man. I knew him on the 5th day he opened his store at Ampang Park and we frequently have lunch at the vegetarian stall at Ampang Park. He sometimes visit my house when he makes deliveries or looking me up... He was working in Vietnam lately and just got back and I was supposed to invite him for Hari Raya to my house.! The last time I saw him was when he delivered kimber i/c to my house.
What is left are our memories...He always asked me for advises on his businesses and treat me like a big brother although I am a Malay.
Goodbye dear friend and brother!

Zul,
Steve has mentioned to me about a Malay gentleman who taught him alot about sound when he was still new in the business. He had great respect for this person. If you're the person he was referring to, you might like to know that he referred to you as the golden ear. Steve said the golden ear would listen to a setup and if he said the sound was good then it was good. If the golden ear says "I don't know" then it does not sound good.
I'm going to miss the chinese tea sessions and i'm still looking forward to the chinese tea sessions every alternate monday-wednesday at his shop because the reality of his passing has yet to register in my mind... But the sad truth is so painful and so difficult to accept.

Re: Sad news for hi-fi kaki - Steve Chan, Ultimate Sound
The last time I met up with Steve was about 2 weeks ago, just a week before Raya. Went up to his shop to collect my Marantz CDP that he repaired.
I was shocked when I received that SMS from his mobilephone. Initially, I was hoping that it was some kind of bad prank. Felt so sad when a friend comfirmed that he really passed away that night.
I don't think I will ever sell this CDP.
Will keep it as a rememberance of this good man.
Rest in Peace, my friend.

Sad news indeed. I got my Quad amplification from Steve. He was indeed very generous.... we started talking about good tea and he insisted on me taking back some of his Ti Kuan Yin tea to try. Still have it!
Time flies... see you soon Steve.

Re: Sad news for hi-fi kaki - Steve Chan, Ultimate Sound
bimmerman,
As you said nicely, the sad truth is always painful. If the late Steve said that to you that I was the 'golden ear' that makes me more sad and even unbearable painful b'cos he never mentioned that to me. There could be other malay gentleman that he meant and I am just a mere mortal that loves music. I want to think that way so as to lessen the painful memories of him.
bimmerman...I can feel you too is a good man. Have a good life before we go to another plane.!
