Antique Sound Lab MG-Head OTL 32

This is an output transformerless, tube preamp and headphone amp.
Fully tube 2 x 12AU7, 4 x 6BQ5/EL84) and tube regulated (5AR4) power supply.
Fyi, EL84 are used in power amps. So you know, the headphone amp section can drive any head or ear-speakers with ease. No half measure here.
The tubes are connected as triodes and not pentodes. That's the only musical way.
Series Regulated Push Pull (SRPP) output topology with zero global feedback.
Expect lush and organic tube sound to your private sonic heaven - no wimpy solid states wannabe here!
It is one of the few headphone amps that can drive AKG 1000 headphone. Perfect match for Grado's.
What is special about Output Transformer-less, i.e. no output transformer!
Transformer helps to match impedances, step up or down voltages. Unfortunately it is good in theory and at a fixed frequency. Put simply, music is not just a simple sine wave at one fixed frequency. It is also not just at a fixed amplitude (loudness). It has harmonics, modulations, interactions of different instruments and sounds, dynamic, attack and decay. Oh, by the way, transformers also introduce phase-shifts. So you can see how things can get really screwed up! That's why having a good output transformer can make or break a tube amp. But of course no output transformer is the best. Only problem is that it is easier to use a transformer to match impedances to deliver the voltage swing to drive loudspeakers.
Condition: 8/10. Bought new from a local dealer. Excellent working order as it is well taken care of. The tubes probably have only been used for less than 20 hrs.

Output transformerless. If only all tube amp can be done without the output transformer.
