Re: turntable + amp
Very subjective. I am using Lenco 78 with a modern amp.... still sounds good to me.

Re: turntable + amp
Fairuz...
Would think it depends on your TT & cartridge on how well it picks up from the grooves.... and the AMP design as well...how well its able to deliver and how best it can cut of unwanted SQ....
Thats my view...
cheers

Re: turntable + amp
Vintage amplification from the 60s and 70s were designed in the golden age of analogue audio when the TT reigned supreme as the source. Other line sources were FM tuners and tape/cassette. These sources tended to have low output thus the amps at the time had high gain circuits and voiced to suit the sources they were being used with. With the advent of digital, the early CDPs with their high gain output were unsuitable for the amp circuits. There was a tendency for clipping and CD sounded harsh and grainy. So if your source is mostly analogue and TT, radio and tape/cassette your source component of choice then vintage naims, quads or BS Meridians would provide excellent amplification. They are made for each other! Also I love the nostalgia factor.

Re: turntable + amp
Fairuz, you can't compare the amp by this way. CD and LP as source is totally different. Please don't open another topic compare CD and LP, else Hifi war is coming..

Re: turntable + amp
What intrigues me is that.... My Lenco 78 performance is no less than a modern TT... both using the same modern amp...

Re: turntable + amp
hi Fairuz,
I have no intention to make this a debate on analog vs digital or vinyl vs digital.
I am just intrigue with your observation. IME , more than 20 years ago i have a vinyl set up @ pink triangle little pink thing with rega tonearm and AT cartridge, pioneer A400 integrated and Mordaunt shorts MS33ti. I thought they sound was very good and till now I have yet to feel the same sound again. I am not saying my current system does not up to that standard but the feel of the music different.
enjoy the music.
