cd transport extreme mod
Hi guys.
I just bought a transport kit. Along way of upgrading psu and bits, getting to know moding the transport mecha really blow me away. Of coz not my idea but recommended by seller far western.
Giving cdp a second chance, i think this kit works really well. I have not gone that far to mod the lense, which is not a too hard job to implement. After readig the feedback it seems a wow effect and promising but only toying on sanyo mecha. Anyone touch that yet besides then psu or oitput stage?
Hope to have some people still a fan of cdp.

Re: cd transport extreme mod
Hi Bal.
Thank you for your feedback and interest. I will try to post more picture progressively. Some are borrowed from other forum.
This is a transport named 'Shigaclone' and made buy Vicol audio. This kit set was a group buy last year. Some diyers bought, 3 of us and another one from Malaysia (whom I cant find him). Using a cheap Sanyo mecha, which was copied from Shigaraki Transport and a few were using this too.
This kit, especially the pcb were design ready for clock upgrade, capacitor and psu along way. Caps and resistors are mostly swap but upgrading the mechanism capture me. Picture below shows first mod on the Sanyo mecha. I will post the entire kit later. You can also have a read in diyaudio on it's builders thread. A good feedback and continuous mod especially from mid last year.
Anyway, why I says 'giving cdp a second chance'. Comparing to Hi res, one can easily spend a lot greater then what we had on cdp.

Re: cd transport extreme mod
I hope viewers can have an open mind and don't complaint my messy finishing. Most important now is knowing what a cd transport (mechanism) before time to say goodbye. This is not any factory finished ready for display unit. It is a pure kit cd transport for progressive upgrades.

Re: cd transport extreme mod
Are my old eyes playing tricks on me or do you have a hole in the wall with mains wires feeding directly into the Transformer? I hope you don't have small children or pets around...a bit dicey.
And yet the hifi geek in me wants to ask... does removing all the fuses and sockets actually benefit the sound?

Re: cd transport extreme mod
Looking good Roger, and you're need quite a big
casing. Mind sharing total cost to put one up?
Minimalist designs from Audiolab 47 are very well
received. Sparkler Audio is another good one.
Cheers.

Re: cd transport extreme mod
Hi dudie.
I still fancy your coertz cable, now too. Okie. This shigka mkii kit full Assembly cost rm1280.00. Also come with cd puck. Is a plug a play transport. Overall better then entry level player. The parts and mod foe next stage as in total from partxconnection and element 14 will go around rm500.00. Parts like:
Mandorf pio 0.1, naked vishay and so on. The last one is clock. Should look at 30pound? I keep that for last.
Sound, i would say now better then my labtop with basic m2 tech converter. Same dac. Comparing price, my labtop at rm1800 and m2 tech total at rm2300. Price are near.
Apple to apple... The max as said draw me another rm500 (not including chassis, internal digital cable and clock).
As to their updates, replacing existing resistors in the mecha is a wow factor. I hope someone can try in their philips mecha too and share here.

Re: cd transport extreme mod
The 2 pcb stand vertically are mini reg, also come with the package from Vicol for segregate power supply. Due to the kit set waited nearly a year, he compliment us with this. This I my first upgrade 2 days ago and brings a huge improvement. Rounder, and I find much better detail. Mod cost: Free and some cables.

Re: cd transport extreme mod
I found a Philips, should be cdm 4. I am not familiar at all except some with Pro or otherwise. A very well built transport. Far better then Sanyo and I love how it was mount with spring to prevent vibration, like LP12? No idea on this mod.

Re: cd transport extreme mod
Sorry all due to long CNY that nothing in progress. FYI, the this transport needs abit of care. No reading before CNY and I left it aside and replaced with other cdp. Now back in action and due to my ignorance of ribbon contact issue. Some spray on both end of the ribbon and again this transport back in action. My second mod is replacing the existing caps. Again as said, any mild spec will do better then existing one. Not that easy to solder but 'olla' all done nicely. Since my soldering iron tips are blunt, so I use nail clipper to remove it. I think I really need to replace my soldering iron.
