for <RM500, check out the lower range sennheiser, akg and grado.

don't waste yr money buying the monster. if u have that kind of cash, go for the sennheiser hd600 - one of the best in the world. shld cost around RM1,600

Consider your medium budget & sound signature I advice try Grado 60/80 & Senn 555, my experience for vocal I like AKG 701/702 or Audio Technica ES7/700/900 or Beyer 880/990 but out of your budget. You could try read user opinion, place to audition & discussion at lowyat.net

I listen to lots jazz and vocals. I'd say get the Audio Technica ATH-ES7. Or look at the ATH-A900. The Audio Technica house sound is slightly warm and a little forward in the mids. They shine in female vocals. If you want a slightly darker and laid back presentation, look at Sennheiser.

If you listen to losts of faced paced/indie vocals, Grado would be a good choice. Grados are brighter than Audio Technica and Sennheiser, but they really excel when there are guitars featured prominently in the music.

Look at Lowyat.net or head-fi.org for more info. Cheers.

studio headphones can be used at home. no prob.

generally, studio headphones are sturdier and have a flatter frequency response.

for ur type of music.
i recommend u drop grado from ur choice
grado is very punchy excited of sound.
got nice mid. but poor sound staging. unless u like very exciting sound that bang ur head all the time
.

within ur budget. for overall performance of vocal and jazz. best i will recommend u to find a Sennheiser HD555 (second hand set is below ur budget).
if u are lucky. find HD595 also a good grab.

ES7 is not neutral and have slight boomy bass. not good for jazz song.

i have sennheiser HD650, Grado Allesendro MS1 (similar to sr80), ES7 on my hand. and i had used SR80, K701, beyer dynamic DT880 600 ohm version for a very long time. and i tested HD555/595 too. thus my recommendation is based on my first hand experience on it.

well ur milage might vary.

I have tested the AKG 142 and 701 and also the Bose over the head headphones. I prefer the Bose for comfort and also clarity in sound. It also does not leak any sound.

The open cup headphones like Grado are usually better sounding but they leak sound like crazy. The AKG I tested also does not really isolate outside noise. The Bose I purchased provides both good sound and also noise isolation. Its selling at RM607, slightly above your budget.
