NHT 1.5 2-way Bookshelf Speaker System


  • 6.5-inch long-throw polypropylene woofer
  • 1-inch fluid-cooled aluminum-dome tweeter
  • 53 to 25,000 Hz frequency response



Big and heavy type bookshelf speakers.


Completely made in US model, high quality and well build speakers.


Cosmetically not so good due to age but can produce superb sound performance due to well taken care with good condition drivers and woofers.




The highs are exceptionally clean and detailed and the base covers most of the spectrum less the very deep notes. It rolls off down very naturally, without being boomy or uncontrolled like many of the ported two-way designs.


Vocals are presented very naturally. The overall dynamics and coherence is excellent. Sound best if 2-3 feet away from the back wall and about that far from the side walls. Stands do make a difference, but the sound is good even when placed on a bookshelf.


I have compared them side by side to AR, Polk, PSB, Definitive, B&W and others and my personal opinion is they are more accurate and uncolored.


I have been testing the speakers with some older cd recordings, Alan Parson's Project, I' Robot and Susanne Vega's Retrospective (greatest hits). "The Voice" on Alan Parson's has a very open passage with strings and some synth instruments that I find very involving, and it opened up the soundstage and showed these speakers true colors, pun intended. With Susanne Vega's "Caramel" I noticed every detail in her voice, warm and grainy at the same time. The song itself has a very warm sound to it in general.

This set is for sure is a no regret buy. Very well taken care and maintained in a smoke free and pet free environment.
