Mu-so Qb shares the same DNA as the original Mu-so wireless speaker system although it is cleverly packaged into a compact cabinet. It uses advanced but simple to use connectivity to deliver Airplay, Bluetooth/aptX, Spotify Connect, TIDAL, UPnP (access your stored music), Internet radio, USB, analogue and digital inputs.
Overview
The Mu-so Qb is a magnificent feat of sound engineering. It is so simple to control and easy to connect and delivers a staggering 300 watts to unmask your music with a sound that defies size. It is possible to combine Mu-so Qb with other Mu-so wireless music systems or Naim streaming products for the ultimate multiroom experience. Simply sync the units to play the same song beat-for-beat in up to five rooms of your home.
One of the biggest design challenges with Mu-so Qb was to configure the individual speakers within the smaller cabinet. In order to achieve that distinctive Naim sound in a compact unit, the engineers at Naim had to interrogate every component and adjust speaker angles by the smallest of fractions. All of the effort finally led to an arrangement of five drivers, offset and angled perfectly to create a left-right dispersion discrepancy. Mu-so Qb uses tweeters with microfibre domes, while its mid drivers have rare earth magnets and copper capped poles for even greater accuracy. For low frequencies, they’ve installed two pistonic passive bass radiators that work alongside a custom-made woofer that’s driven by a 100W amplifier to create astonishing low frequencies for a system this size.
There are many design elements that make Mu-so Qb unique – all are born from a desire for music performance and quality. An extruded aluminium heat sink maximises thermal performance of the compact unit whilst the Mu-so Qb chassis is encased in a highly complex, 20% glass-filled polymer for strength, rigidity and dampening. At the core is the volume control – made from a solid aluminium ring, which runs the circumference of the touch-panel interface with a patent-pending illumination system.
A unique configuration of seven custom speaker drivers provides a substantial output way beyond what is anticipated for the overall dimensions – 1 x active bass, 2 x passive bass, 2 x mid-range and 2 x tweeters. Each active unit is individually controlled by the DSP for total accuracy. A total of 300W of amplification are employed with each of the five drive units powered by individual balanced Class-D amplifiers, capable of delivering 50W to the mid-range and high-frequency drivers and 100W to the bass.
