Clearaudio Basic Symmetry balanced MC phono stage (used)

Clearaudio Basic Symmetry balanced MC only phono stage. Comes with a custom-made Mogami Neglex star quad cable with female RCA connections to allow balanced operation. This phono stage uses current-mode amplification with auto adjustment of loading of the cartridge, similar to the Aqvox Phono 2Ci. I previously owned the Aqvox and this sounds very similar - very clean and clear.

It is a Basic Symmetry (error in original post corrected, thanks), but it does have a balanced input on a 5-pin mini connector. The adapter is plugged in to it in my picture (the red wire above the power cord). Here's a picture of the back a of the unit showing the connector.



The output from an MC cartridge is inherently balanced, so as long as your tonearm wire has a separate ground it will remain this way even over an RCA connection. If your tonearm is wired with the ground and negative tied together (mainly Rega tonearms) then this input won't work as intended (you can of course still use the standard phono input). Other tonearms are fine - I have used it with an SME and a Jelco and it works perfectly.

The Clearaudio Reference and Balanced Dual Mono phono stages also used this type of input, at a much higher price point. The advantage is rejection of hum and noise, which is most important at the input of a phono stage where the level of the signal is very low.
