Sansui au-111 singing in the water

hello hifi kaki
bought it from a reseller in Ipoh,saying in 100% very good condition
after received ,testing after 20 minute sound like sing in water,
refer to seller less a bit for repair cost his refuse and telling 
due to old age only 80% no 100% ,ok but saying his sell it very cheap 
told me that item easy sell over 13k
like to know did anybody agreed to buy it over rm13k ?thanks

So sorry to know of this problem. I was also interested in this au111. But decided not to because all old amps, especially very old valve amps have problems. You must test drive before plonking down good hard earned money. Sellers will always sing beautiful songs about their products but if there is no warranty, its worth shit. I have always been leery about some of these ipoh sellers because I don't have a chance to test drive them. 

Get a second opinion on the amp and then demand for a refund and name the seller for the protection of other buyers.

BTW, some sellers are great and some are scammers.

HFS should have a list for "Unhappy Buying List"
anything that sounds sour can post it up over there  

Do not buy any untested equipment especially "high cost" equipment. Unless you know he  has the skill /capability on "fixing" the problems, sadly many reseller "dont have such skills". But they have the skills to takeaway  your $$$.

If they dont have the "repair" skill, then you must test "kow kow" before hand away your $$$.

Some 40Y old equipment's are still mint working condition depend where they came from, if they came from local there are exposed to serious climate related erosive effect. If they came from "cold & not humid "countries there are well preserved to be honest! Must consider to buy!
 
I encourage buy a better condition unit from oversea then buying from local especially for the "elite"series.
Last word- You decide how you spend your $$! No matter what you decide it is all yours. Life is full of venture and also exposed to all risks!

Yes. I’ve also had a bad experience and bought counterfeit a power cord from this seller I know who. (Jxxxxok). I’ve just thrown away to avoid future victim.

Let us know how much you want to sell. I might be interested if the price is right. Definitely not RM13K I rather buy a newer tube amp. In the US they can command higher price if the unit is recapped, change resistors, potentiometer and new tubes. That will guarantee another decade of trouble free listening. In Malaysia mostly the set are being repaired using China parts or Pasar Road unknown quality components.

6, after receive the unit buyer say lite distortion on the right side i instruct him gently press all tubes due transport may be loose contact
7, after press the tubes he said running 20 minutes the distortion noise  on the r side come again
8. i said if u not  satisfied the present condition of the unit i repay full amount return back the unit
 9. the buyer only concern about discount discount discount
i  not agree about discount n only option ret back my unit get back ur full  money   
he angry n scold me talk louder n cut the phone conversation halfway n today make a TOPIC IN hifi 4 sale

Now that the seller has given his side of the story with WhatsApp proof, I am not sure whether the buyer gave a complete story.

I have bought some items from the seller. So far so good. 
As a customer, if you are not happy... and seller allow refund then just ask for refund and just return the unit back.
No need to stress. Just relax and enjoy the hobby.

I got a shout rude voice msg from this J-bro (A-K) when I made enquiry to him using messenger to the extent he replied "if you lazy to write using whatsapp ... blabla"  as he said he only use whatsapp to reply. Messenger and whatsapp both communicate in writing, what crap he is talking about. I never read any of his subsequent postings thereafter. To me he is a rude seller.

I did buy few items from both of them, bro-J & bro-C, both of them are very good seller…..
Pls bear in mind that we are buying used/2nd item, no factory type of warranty 1-2 yrs. All risk on your own once you took the item out from the seller house.
This Sansui is already 40 yrs old, how to give guarantee ? The factory won’t give, so do us(user) as well…. So, all base on your experience n risk. Just like buying a classic Mercedes W126 500SEL, after driving a while, you ask the seller to change the tyres for you as it sound noisy…..just an example.
Like julian_khoo said, if you’re not happy with the item and the seller agree to give you full refund, then why wiat ? Just returned it . Most of theose eletrical shop outside won’t give you refund at all.
My suggestion is to return it and get back the $$$, wait for another au111 to come out for sale…… but I’m doubt it will happen soon. The unit that bro-C getting is superd, still original and shining. I believe bro-C can repair it and sell it for 10k !!!

I can vouch for Chris, bought items from him before, very friendly. For jbashok, I have no experience buying from him but recently I got blocked by him in facebook for telling the owner who bought a sansui BA-F1 to recap the unit and change out the black flag caps which is known to make the amp to oscillate and kill itself. As a person who love old gear, im just spreading an awareness of old gear must be serviced no matter what. Since I know the mentality of malaysians if it is not broken, dont fix it.

For the black flag caps, my friend in US has a pair of kenwood l07m2 and he received one that has oscillated and killed itself, and he had to buy it off from the customer to completely rebuild the unit from top to bottom, buy new output transister, rebuilt the whole circuit board with completely new parts and build the outputs ontop of the existing heatsink.
