Dude, you going to shop hifi in Japan? That is cool man. If I were you I would google and load Japan map into GPS (well, either "ahem" or paid map). I could locate most local Hifi shop with my GPS.

Why buy in Japan? Going for Japanese makes? I thought things in Japan are often very much more expensive than those in other Asian country - probably so as space rental there is very high.

Its just something I learned long ago, unsure if it still holds true or not now.
Japan produces and keep the best 1st class electronics and general appliances for their own home market (sold only in Japan for its citizens, cannot be exported). All the markings in home appliances are in Japanese language. Limited amount of it all (depending on company or export policy) of it is exported out to EU and USA and of course documentation and prints are all in English. These best and 1st class are of top build quality, finely produced and QC'ed.
Export quality are likely made in foreign assembly plants, normal run of the mill QC, local content materials, all the obvious. Thats why there's people who as for Made in Japan.. thinking its of the highest quality. Note that Japanese exports are NOT allowed to be re-exported back into Japan. Its LAW. I think we should have this here in Malaysia. Thats why MALAYSIA is a DUMPHOUSE!... firecrackers enough to land many people to hospital without fingers and toes.
There's more to this all, but this is just an overview. Yes, I'd buy from there if all's well, eventhough it may cost a bit more.

isnt made in japan electronics uses 100v?
then u'll have to find a good step down trn

too messy..
unless they can custom made according to bolehland voltage

Re: Hi-Fi shops in Japan
I have been to Akihabara and been to a shop selling HIFI. Was wondering why some old equipment was sold at that time and it is vintage. If I were to go again, it is Akihabara.

Re: Hi-Fi shops in Japan
I'm using Esoteric P-30 VRDS transport and Victor Laboratory K2 DAC both were purchased in Japan. Build quality & parts are top notch and although they're 100v 50/60hz in rating, I have no problem in using step down and act as an isolation trans as well...better sound.
