Audiophile Orchestral Jazz Masterpiece - Lot of 4 Cds (New/Sealed) SOLD!
The Following Items are sold as a lot (Kindly do not ask for individual items)
"Like every unfolding petal of the lotus that face the morning sun, the rich layers of sound and music within every disc here unfolds
like the flower itself,an extremely niche segment "Orchestral Jazz", makes use of countless multi-layered woodwinds to form an
ensemble unlike any other in the genre of Jazz, originally catapulted to fame by the cerebral combinations with the likes of
Miles Davis & Gil Evans Orchestra,Billy Strayhorn & The Duke Ellington Orchestra, Orchestral Jazz differs from what one might misconstrue as BIG BAND Jazz unlike the work of The Fletcher Henderson or The Mingus Big Band, the mood here is complex, often -
elegant, lush, intimate but poignant. We've turned the tables a bit here, with the inclusion of the hugely successful album "Gil Evans Plays the Music of Jimi Hendrix", a tribute to legendary Rock Legend, NO it isn't a mid life crisis disc - "Quinta Ruban"
1.Chick Corea & Origin with The London Philharmonic Orchestra* -SPAIN - Corea Concerto - (Columbia - Made in Austria)
"Spain" is probably Chick Corea's best-known composition. Written in 1971, it was first introduced by his Return
to Forever band and played frequently by many other Corea-led groups, including his 1988 Akoustic Band trio. Here it appears again and arguably, for all time in a powerful, extended form through the efforts of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor Steven Mercurio, Corea, and five other members of the group Origin. Combining the sounds of Spain, Cuba, Brazil, Argentina, and New York with a whiff of Gershwin and Ravel thats full of whispers and thunders, Corea's arrangement won the 2000 Grammy. "Spain" is divided into a nine-minute introduction, 11 minutes of theme statement and improvisation, and a magnificent conclusion, weaving classical and jazz elements together in the tune's ultimate fulfillment. The second Corea composition on this CD, his "Piano Concerto No. 1," was supposedly modeled after the style of Mozart, although Wolfgang never had this much fire and passion. With Corea on piano, Origin veterans Avishai Cohen on double bass and Jeff Ballard on drums fronting the Philharmonic, the concerto contains over 30 minutes of musical textures, with beautifully melodic piano interludes and a recurring Latin pulse. This is the kind of intricate, multi-layered CD that sparkles brighter with each hearing; the "Spain" arrangement alone is worth the price of admission. All told, it's more evidence of Corea's restless and brilliant talent; fans who've followed his winding artistic path for decades may well see this CD as a clear monument, if not a peak - Judith Schlesinger (Jazz Critic)

2.Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra - Evanessence (Enja Records - Made in Germany)
Textured Layers of labyrinthine arrangements, encircled by the some of the best musicians which marries unparalleled soloist,
Evanescence : a tribute to the greatest orchestral arranger with regards to Jazz; Gil Evans.
Maria Schenider, the thought-provoking composer/arranger allures and reinvigorates an outpost within the jazz dimension "Orchestral Jazz" makes a daring return reminiscence of archaic classics such as Miles Davis/Gil Evans collaborations "Sketches of Spain" and "Porgy and Bess", Maria here, reinvents the theorem with her unique signature of timeless jazz with complex but beautiful sounding music coaxed from layers and layers of subtle wood wind arrangement, if theres a word for it, it's "High Class Jazz, then this is it!, riveting an assortment of sound which in itself becoming a signature is never easy.Tenor Saxophonist Rich Perry and Rick Margitza, Grig Gisbert and Tim Hagans on Trumpet with the golden touch of Pianist Kenny Werner, makes this now out of print CD, a stand alone winner, expect multiple types of horn layering, which gives any string ensemble a run for their money.
Engaging Sound from ENJA Records as usual.
3.Jaco Pastorius Big Band Orchestra - Word of Mouth (Warner Brothers - Made in Germany)
In 1981, while still with Weather Report, Jaco Pastorius amassed this unremitting, topnotch big band into which he threads anything that appealed to his vast jazz imagination from the bell-clanging Caribbean to the burning soul of R&B to the jaunty European boulevards. On board are Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Peter Erskine, Jack DeJohnette, Michael Brecker, Don Alias, and others. The result is skirmishing, scurrying, all-in slabs of sound that suddenly give way to fluid quietude with chorus and strings and, most wonderfully weirdly, to harmonica features from Toots Thielemans. Pastorius is always close to the front, a fretless-bass phenom who out-guitared most guitarists. He also wrote and arranged well, taking care not to let vim and pepper do all the talking.
4.The Gil Evans Orchestra - Plays the Music of Jimi Hendri (RCA/BlueBird - Made in Europe)
One of the most significant arrangers in jazz history, takes a daring jump! This CD reissue (which adds additional material to the original LP program) is much more successful than one might have expected. Jimi Hendrix was scheduled to record with Gil Evans' Orchestra but died before the session could take place. A few years later, Evans explored ten of Hendrix's compositions with his unique 19-piece unit, an orchestra that included two French horns, the tuba of Howard Johnson, three guitars, two basses, two percussionists and such soloists as altoist David Sanborn, trumpeter Marvin "Hannibal" Peterson, Billy Harper on tenor, and guitarists Ryo Kawasaki and John Abercrombie. Evans' arrangements uplift many of Hendrix's more blues-oriented compositions and create a memorable set that is rock-oriented but retains the improvisation and personality of jazz, which is progressive and artful.
If you are on Magnepans, then the Chick Corea and Maria Schneider is a sheer joy!
