I am a proud owner of 2 modified Audionote Kits DAC 1.1. I am likely to own them to a lot longer. These dacs are great.

However, years ago, also bought a DAC2.1 (non kit) for 12 grand but had huge problems. Could not even give proper gain. Dealer didn't help much. Sold it off after a few months for RM4k. Lost my fever for a few year after.

Moral of the story. best bang for buck - buy the kits.

erm mind to share more about your experience? why does it boring? less dynamic, not musical?

Audio Note tube DAC Empty Re: Audio Note tube DAC

yeah the DAC-1 sounded lazy and undynamic.

Dunno about the 1.x later versions thought .. they may have improved alot in the areas that i usually hear for.... ? i haven't had a chance to hear these yet.

The DAC-1 is quite old already, so maybe it appeals to "listening style" of the day then.

Hi,

I bought the Dac 1.1 kit from Cecil from Audionote Singapore. He is a good man.

Another place to get it will be www.audionotekits.com There's a sub forum under www.audioasylum.com for audionote kits.

BTW, I think 1.1 has been superceded by the 2.1 with a few iterations.

Audio Note tube DAC Empty Audio Note Gears

Post by Mister TJ Thu Sep 10, 2009 1:12 pm

Audio Note gears are anything but boring. The only caveats with their DACs are that they have to be paired with Audio Note's transport. Likewise the pre and power. I should know 'cause I have upgraded from Naim pre/power / Epos to M-1 pre(upgraded)/ Conqueror power (basic)/ AN's AX-2 bookshelf speaker. My front end is Audio Alchemy ACD Pro transport/ DDE V3 DAC/ Power Station 3. I've never looked back since.

I listened to all musical genres covering rock, pop, jazz, reggae, blues, oldies and of course, vocals.

Audio Note gears in my system sounds dynamic, open, fast paced and above all, musical.

I've auditioned AN's DAC-1 with my AA transport but was a mismatch due to AA's low gain.

AN are like Naim- you have to also use their own power cables (very cheap and very ordinary) and their interconnect and speaker cables (very expensive- pure silver) to hear them at their best.

Boring is only when you do the wrong match
