Re: Converting Kimber KCAG from RCA to XLR
Kalau you nak warm, Select 1011 dah cukup bro. Select 1016 tu ade 6 strands of kuprum kompared to 1011 yang ade 2 strands je. Dua-dua kabel ni pun warm sound tapi Select 1016 menampil prestasi bass yang lagi hebat dan mendalam.
Yang Select 1021 tu, I punye favourite kerana dia tu ade silver for signal dan kuprum for negative. dah cukup detail dan bass pun dah boleh walap KCAG bro. 1021 tu dah cukup hebat dah brader.
Tapi kalau duit tak de problem, 1026 ade 3 strand silver for signal dan 3 strand hyper pure kuprum for negative. Tapi mahal beb! kalau untuk I pilih, 1021 pun dah kenyang bro.
Cam tu lah beb!

Re: Converting Kimber KCAG from RCA to XLR
Ahhhhh yes, a little bit of dew is always good to start the day. Pity we urbanites don't get enough dew these days. Can't remember when I had me some good dew.
But no lah, KCAG is plenty enough for me. I was just answering Mugen's question on which Kimber select to select.
Levinson for me? Of course lah! That's a done deal if one shows up now. Hell yeah, I'll get it, Hell yeah now!!! But where got any for sale??? I have to go to Singapore lah but that will be at least 2 weeks away woh. If it's still there waiting for me that is.
Come on come on guys! With all your Hi-fi connections and years of mingling with audiophiles and their gear i'm sure someone can point me to a 390s. You point me there, if the price is reasonable, Mark my Levinson words, I'll DO IT NOW!!!!!
Hell yeah!!!

BTW, I researched the Meridian 508, 588 and theese are ok too. BUT NO!!! I'm hellbent on No.390s because apart from sounding good, they have the visual appeal i'm looking for.
Come on guys, get a move on, point me to a 390s!!!

Re: Converting Kimber KCAG from RCA to XLR
Yeah that bonus sure did finally arrive but it came so paltry it barely covered the credit card debts. Nope, it's not the bonus. And I have not inherited no fortune. It's some other simple twist of fate which changed my numbers from 39 to 390s. Once I part with the cash for the 來榮唇, i'll be broke again.
Mr. Wong, I look forward to your good news and no, the 來榮唇 No.512 won't do. It's not pretty as a 390s. Can't afford the 512 anyway.
say, Mr.Wong, weren't you at Amcorp Mall just now?

Captains log:
Monday, February 1, 2010
It's been 10 months, 2 weeks and 3 days since I conquered the Krell. Illusive as the Krell appeared to be in the planet Boleh, they were abundant in planet Singapore and I now hold specimen KAV300i in the lab. To date, much has been discovered from the Krell. A large bounty of sonic goodness has been extracted and a final link to unraveling the mysteries of the sonic nexus exists only with the capture of the Levinson Specimen No.390s.
The beckon call of the Levinsons are driving me insane. It has been 1 month 1 week and 47 hours since setting course to find the illusive Levinson No.390s and the journey is beginning to take it's toll on my sanity. Moral is at a all time low and resources are running out. Does it even exist the No.390s? Can my lowly blue collar existance even gaze upon the No.390s without being struct down by it's awesome power? Afterall, the No.390s was created by higher beings to entertain the gods that rule over us blue collars.
No time for self doubt... I must press on and explore uncharted terriroty... I have made an alliance with the all seeing oracle WONGKN of the forum gods and he has expressed his willingness to hold council with the purveyors of Levinson of the planet Boleh.
With the oracle lies the answer...

Unfortunately the Oracle has to report that Starfleet HQ failed to locate the target. So looks like you really have to make a spacejump to Singapore to find that elusive ML.

Re: Converting Kimber KCAG from RCA to XLR
Well, here I am folks, in Singapore and I've just visited Adelphi. The shop with the Mark Levinson No.390s was not open so I gave the chap a call. After his phone rang for like almost forever he answered with a voice of zero enthusiasm with a hello minus the H.
shopguy: allo, allo, allo!
me: Hi, will you be opening shop today?
shopguy: allo!!! what? allo, allo!!!
me: your shop at adelphi, today open or not???
shopguy: pauses...no!
me: erm, ok. But could you tell me if you still have that Levinson No.390s then?
shopguy: huh? long time oredi sell loh!!!
me: ok loh, sollee to bother you loh!!! click!
So with that ends my quest for a Mark Levinson No.390s for now and forever. I wish it didn't have to end this way but... well, that's it folks. No No.390s for me.
I don't think these mythical things exist anyway.

Forget the ML ....
a Behringer SRC2496 could possibly be much better sounding than a ML and at a Fraction of the cost as well.
Thanks to Moore's Law.
BTW, a 80486 CPU was sold by Intel in bulk (yes, you got to buy it in the tens/hundred thousands to get this price) to PC manufacturers back in the late 80s for a unit price of USD1000.
Today's RM 800 Intel Core-whatever-something is like a billion times more powerful and faster than the 80486 of year-1989.

Re: Converting Kimber KCAG from RCA to XLR
Bro, is this the Behringer thingy?
Surely won't look out of place as a StarTrek prop this.
Yes, I was also considering Moore's law and how it would affect audio equiptment. But do note that back then, the ML No.39 was already 24bit 384Khz compared to the mainstream 24bit 96Khz of today. Circuit design and such would also play a big part in sound quality. Would be interesting if someone could come out with a comparison between modern day and vintage CD players.

The Meridian 506.24, 508.24, these are all good stuff but for me it's like buying a dream car. The Meridian is a beautiful top of the range Peugeot. Say, Peugeot 607. Fast, quiet, refined, comfortable etc. You could drive the 607 for many years to come and never want to buy another car.
Then the Mark Levinson. That is a Ferrari! Would you buy a Ferrari? Most regular folks would not because the mantenance will kill you. But the Mark Levinson? You pay a hefty amount only once to own it and then it's yours. It's a Ferrari of CD players and you don't need to pay maintenance.

Yup ... my "toy" that i use to digitise vinyls. Also to smoothen out the MP3s with its "dither" functions and slight upsample to 48KHz coz my old DAC can't handle the new fancy 96KHz rates.
But truth be told, I don't use it as a D/A but only as an A/D (for bootlegging Vinyls) and as a SRC (Sample rate converter) to remove as much nasties from playing MP3s. Oh yes, they really do improve MP3s alot and making them much closer to the original 16/44.1KHz quality (but still not quite there).
