Re: Audiophile CDs
No matter where you go, someone will always have Jennifer Warnes: The Hunter there to test. I guess "Way Down Deep" is the best song, to me on that CD.
Personally I prefer the bluegrass "Moments Like This" performed by Alison Krauss & Union Station on the Twister Soundtrack (1996).

Re: Audiophile CDs
I just got this "True Stereo" CD sampler from Naim music. Here's some info from their Naim True Stereo Sample website:
- A pair of AKG 414EB microphones as used in True Stereo recordings.
- Nagra IV-S analogue recorder used to capture True Stereo recordings.
The end result offers the listener a ‘live’, acoustically realistic
perspective on the music without processing or electronic manipulation of any
kind. Because the sound is recorded direct to stereo, there is no opportunity
for mixing or manipulating it after the recording has been made.
The positioning of the microphones is critical for this kind of recording:
microphone placement represents the only opportunity that our engineer, Ken
Christianson, has to adjust the levels. For example, more or less bass is
achieved by positioning the bassist closer to or further from the
microphones.
Ken’s techniques – developed over a period of many years – are illustrated in
the booklet which accompanies the True Stereo Sampler. There are diagrams
showing the placement of instruments and microphones, and details on the
specific sound characteristics of the room that was used for the recording.

Re: Audiophile CDs
This a remarkable and impressive recording. I like in particular Track 5 by Christy Baron and 8 by Valerie Joyce, where you can hear the scratching of vinyl coming from behind you and the sound of the saxophone reflecting from the ceiling on these two tracks respectively.

12. Channel ID/phase test
13. Balance test
14. Pink noise (-20 dBFS)
15. Subwoofer crossover test
This CD is a perfect test for your system.

Re: Audiophile CDs
For those who like solo piano music.
Simone Dinnerstein, piano: The Berlin Concert = BACH: French Suite No. 5 in G Major, BWV 816; LASSER: Twelve Variations on Bach’s “Nimm von uns, Herr, du treuer Gott,” BWV 101; BEETHOVEN: Piano Sonata No. 32 in C Minor, Op. 111; BACH: Goldberg Variation, BWV 988: Variation 13 - Telarc CD-80715, 74:37
Dinnerstein’s encore derives from her signature piece, the Bach Goldbergs. The music combines aspects of sarabande and siciliano, glittering, delicate, intricate, prayerful. Dinnerstein assumes the mantle of Bachauer and Tureck, the new high priestess of musical art.

So many great CDs recommended here...
I would like to take this opportunity to ask a question regarding Stacey Kent.
Which album contains the song "So Nice"?
I can only find this song in Jim Tomlinson's Brazilian Sketches.

It seems difficult to get this CD locally (Kuala Lumpur/Petaling Jaya/Penang).
However, it is best you buy it from the Net.
This is a fantastic CD to test/audition your speakers and system, particularly track #11.
Happy Listening.

"Best Audiophile Voices " series I to V is easily available locally, i.e. victoria music, rock corner, etc.
I have seen XRCD remastered of Best Audiophile Voices Vol I and Vol II too.
I love Stacey Kent as well as Alison Krauss and not to forget the late Eva Cassidy.

Re: Audiophile CDs
Ya, I have came across the ROC Audiophile Voices too, don't know how is the sound quality like but the price will beat the original Premium Records lah, regardless of normal print or XRCD.

For Stacey Kent's fan - Stacey Kent knighted
Excerpt from articles published by one of my last.fm group members as below: -
Way back in 2002, before this place, the collaborative filtering music discovery systems I used were Amazons' and my Yahoo! LAUNCHcastCBS).
I think it was LAUNCHcast that turned me on to Stacey Kent's 2001Dreamsville
album and - man - Did I feel I was in on something good?! If you're not
familiar with the release, I strongly suggest checking-out You're Looking At Me, Hushabye Mountain, I've Got A Crush On YouDreamsville.

and
For years I felt like one of the select few who knew her. When I first joined AudioScrobbler in 2005, absence of her recordings was one of the standards by which I judged the LAUNCHcast's catalog better than here.
During 2006 she became streamable and in July I tagged her as lesser known yet streamable artists
Over time, her notoriety's grown'n'grown and, hey hey, my girl's:
topped a million plays on Last.FM (with 130K+ listeners), her Breakfast on the morning train
was Grammy nominated, won British & BBC jazz awards ... and now
she's been knighted! - Awarded with the medal of Knight of the French
Order of Arts and Literature (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) by Christine Albanel (French Culture Minister), during a ceremony at the Quai Branly museum in Paris. which, by then prevailing standards, would've meant that she had less than 10K listeners, on Last.FM. 31 March 2009

Re: Audiophile CDs
Stacey's voice is really smooth, loud and clear.
I like her songs So Nice and You Are There.
Last Saturday, I managed to get a copy of the Best Audiophile Voices after failing to get Brazilian Sketches.

Re: Audiophile CDs
Hi BrAvO,
?? It should be Stacey Kent not Tracey
By the way, just bought her album Dreamville last weekend, like it very much though few songs already included in Stacey Kent Collection II.

Re: Audiophile CDs
Also i bought Keith Jarrett - The Köln Concert, one of the finest recording of the art of piano, never get bored listening again and again. It was recorded live in Köln, Germany on January 24, 1975. I have searched for this CD quite sometimes after a good review from TAS few years back, finally it's available locally.
