Listened to that 2V1G album today. Well, nice enough, good voices, good guitar but after like 5 songs I kinda longed for some percussion or maybe a piano...

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Just bought this today, awesome smoky-laid-back blues all the way. Damn syok.....makes me feel doin' the bbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!..just like that Coke commercial..heheh...This particular album does not contain the regular rip-roaring blues that makes you wanna jump and shout 'Yeahh' like their usual release (hence 'The Quite Side'). This album is more that makes you lay down to your chair and makes you recall your past...be it good or bad...bright or dark. This album will stir your soul...........

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Alternate between Traxx fm on 90.3MHz or 100.1Mhz or news chan at 93.9MHz during the day. Rock music from BFM at 89.9MHz during the evenings and late into the night, some really chill out keroncong over at 104.1MHz. In between stations it would be some lo-fi indie downloads played of a memory stick on a DVD machine. CD selection in local outlets has been rather poor lately. Britney anyone?

Re: What are you listening to right now?
This is as intimate a recording of The Four Seasons as you will ever likely come across, due entirely to the complete immersion of the phenomenal Connecticut Early Music Festival Ensemble into the spirit and essence of Vivaldi, under the directorship of ageless maestro, Igor Kipnis.
With each of the eight Connecticut Ensemble members taking his or her part--- three violins, viola, cello, bass, theorbo/archlute/guitar, and harpsichord--- Vivaldi's concerti Op. 8, No.'s 1-4 become chamber-like, wistful, utterly personal. And contrary to what we might presume, even with its bare bones showing, this Four Seasons becomes yet more profound. Textures hidden beneath typical orchestral forces, embellishments subdued or repressed entirely, or melodic lines no longer articulated (or too well integrated to hear), have a sudden clarity, variety and emotional impact that is startling and completely convincing--- as well as being thoroughly thrilling.
The keen scholarship of Kipnis is telling at every turn, as in the use of Richard Stone's theorbo, archlute or baroque guitar interspersed throughout; or Eli Potash's self-built and wonderfully rich and baroquely gruff bass, tuned in fifths; or Kipnis' own harpsichord contribution, a marvel in itself, and particularly rewarding (as in the Adagio of "Autumn")--- yes! we do actually get to HEAR the harpsichord! (At long last.)
Lead violinist Jorg-Michael Schwarz is to be commended for his beautiful tone, grace and musical emapthy; but, then, it would be a disservice not to commend every member of the Connecticut Ensemble for fabulously rich and inspiring craftsmanship, and for allowing us the treasures manifest in their playing.
Also on the CD is the Flute Concerto in D, Op. 10, No. 3 ("The Goldfinch"), RV 428, here played rapturously by John Slocum on a mid-18th century one-keyed boxwood flute. Superb!
To round things out, we have a concerto (listed as RV 546), probably for violin and cello, reconstructed brilliantly, and convincingly, by Kipnis as a three movement Harpsichord Concerto (RV 78) in A.
Absolutely first-rate sound: warm, comfortable, inviting, detail-rich.
By Melvyn M. Sobel
This recording is probably the best of the 3 I have in my possession.

On current heavy rotation
Editors - An End Has A Start. Also have the latest album which is very very different
Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies
Adele - 19
Snow Patrol - Up To Now - The Best Of Snow Patrol
And some ECM Jazz, Ferenc Snetberger - Nomad
Snetberger is jazzier in nature compared to Antonio Forcione but a tad bit slower post but his technical skills are no less though less showy.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Bat For Lashes – Two Suns. More radical than her debut album “Fur and Gold”. Difficult to pigeonhole Natasha Khan’s effort. Google states her style as alternative rock but she doesn’t sound like rock at all. Lots of electronic elements and also pop and folk including the use of harp & piano. Nominated for this year’s Mercury Award.
Beth Orton – Trailer Park. Dido who? This album first came out in 1996 hence got the remastered legacy edition!!! Electronic folk with big beats at its best. William Orbit was so impressed he invited Beth to guest sing in his “Strange Cargo III” album
][
Blue Roses – Blue Roses. This is a front for a young lady by the name of Laura Groves. She sounds like a Kate Bush incorporating elements of Joanna Newsom but she’s more song based although u dun have the 3 min chorus and verse of your typical pop song. Most of her songs read like paens and stories from start to end. Sublime stuff and nicely recorded too.
[[
Imogen Heap – iMegaphone. Ms Heap’s debut album. Quirky electronic pop at its best. Angrier and more Tori Amos sounding than her latter albums with lotsa pianos.

Mr Joy Division will love this
One can understand the timeless classic of Joy Division and why they inspired the likes of U2, Simple Minds, Editors, and many more bands..
I personally feel Yellowjackets have lost their mojo for last couple albums but the latest shows some slight recovery
Classic Talk Talk album after the Colour of Spring.. Very jazz oriented.

Michael Jackson - This is It! This is more of as compilation album but hey the recording quality's excellent and there's Whacko Jacko's last song "This is it"
Loreena McKennitt - A Meditarranean Odyssey. "A glittering addition to Loreena McKennitt's catalogue, A Mediterranean Odyssey combines new live performances of audience favourites from her 2009 Mediterranean Tour with a collection of previously released studio recordings, personally selected by Loreena. " The album's a local pressing though but quality's not too bad
New Order - The Best Of New Order. Just had to get this for old times sake. Need more be said?

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue. Slowly sinking in. Still prefer The Dave Brubeck' Quartet's Time Out.
The best in the Strange Cargo series. William Orbit's Strange Cargo III. Electronic ambient with a twist of dance thrown in.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
A friend just came back from the US and helped get me these. Strings galore for all 3 CDs. Violins, cellos, violas, etc are the order of the day
Paul Hartnoll - The Ideal Condition. I've always been a major Orbital fan and had to get the solo albums when Orbital split. Whereas Long Range is more electronic in nature and more akin to the Orbital sound, "The Ideal Condition" is Paul finding his voice errrr electronic sound. Lotsa strings with some tracks sounding akin soundtrack scores. My favourite whiner Robert Smith aka The Cure's frontman is singing the 4th track "Please". Oh and the Scorpios are also excellent with electronic music and major priority for me.
Kate Havnevik - Melankton. Very breathy vocals ala Imogen Heap and Emmy Rossum. Whereas Ms Rossum is too poppy and comes across as an Imogen rip-off, Ms Havnevik differentiates her music with lotsa strings and orchestral scores
Lars Danielsson - Tarantella. One of the best contemporary jazz albums of 2009 imho. Lars Danielsson is a Swedish bassist and cellist composer but oh boy are the pianos great. Very layered and excellent recording

Re: What are you listening to right now?
