Dan D'Agostino with Maggie Review

One of the many hi-fi forums, AVShowreports is my favourite which give us actual playback sound quality. Besides that, our own AV2day and the El Hefe blog which also occassionally post on Youtube. AVshowreports is probably the only audio video representation of the actual sound and let users decide the sound. Although, it will never be the true representation of the actual sound but it must be the closest of what reaches our ears.
 
In the video here below is the playback sound Esoteric DACs, amplifiers, Cabasse loudspeakers draw some positive comments from people who viewed the Youtube.

Is it me or something else? Almost all the playback sounded more attractive than the original recording. 

I am using the cheap AKG clone headphone Superflux HD681F to compare. Anyone with better headphones perceive otherwise? 

If I am not mistaken the recordings by AVShowreports were made using Canon Camcorder and Tascam microphone.

Excellent STC... I believe the industry should move towards video review samplers on top of words. But the challenge is there to reproduce the sound from the set up that can truly represent the performance of such set up.

I have tried using FullHD Samsung video cam with Dolby Digital, iPhone, Samsung Note and now Blackberry PRIV with 4K video. But none can really reproduce the listening experience I get once published on youtube.

My hall of course is not ideal for proper recording compared to the set up on AVShowreports but I am looking into better avenue to do reviews now.

It is not so much about the recording venue but to capture the soundwaves reaching our ears. Good microphone should able to capture exactly and a binaural microphone should able to record exactly what you hear them. 

AVSR doing us a great service by using a few standard recordings. I am now doing the recording to compare changes in the sound when I tweak the setup. It is somewhat useful to hear what actually changed between my two speakers.

Yes definitely mic-ing technique is critical in recording a sound system. Having an external mic to the video recording will improve the sound reproduction ten fold. If I ever get into the next level of hifi reviewing, I may invest in a better recording set up. But at the moment.... doing this as a hobby.... have to settle with basic recording kit heheheh.
